Good morning, Alison!
First off, congrats on getting through your surgery so well!
As far as the protein, don't expect to be able to get it all in at 5 days out. Your stomach is still healing and you can't take in that much. Your tastes have changed and it may take awhile before they return to normal. If you don't like the taste of the drinks, you might want to try samples sold on vitalady.com to figure out what tastes you can actually stomach.
But don't get nervous that you'll get sick or end up back in the hospital right now...as long as you are drinking your liquids, trying to get your protein, and start your vitaminds when the doctor tells you, you shouldn't have a problem. The amount of protein that you can take in will increase with time and you have to shop around until you find the flavor you like. I like this banana scream protein drink.
Someone gave me this tip which I find really helpful. I had a teaspoon or two of SF pudding, to the drink, add a few ice cubes and blend it and it comes out a thicker consistency more like a shake and the pudding adds flavor, too. I've found SF pistachio, chocolate, vanilla and cheesecake, but so far have only used the first two SF puddings.
Continue drinking the water, don't be too hard on yourself, give your body time to recuperate and take it one day at a time.
Take care,
Sue
PS - I read your profile. How is your little boy doing now?

Howdy Alli! Congratulations and welcome to the losers bench! There is a wonderful bariatric store in Hopewell Junction, NY www.C2Linfo.com and they will sell you samples of protein shakes to try. I like the AchieveOne drinks.
You know that one ounce of protein drink will not cut it for you even (5) days out. If you have to hold your nose and throw it down, do that. Are you able to drink cold beverages, make a smoothie with your protein shake and ice and see how that goes for you! Getting in all of your protein this early is very difficult but you have to at least make an hourly effort to get something down!
Depending on where you live we've got some fabulous support groups, if you are in the Fishkill are they meet on Sunday's at 6:00 at the Residence Inn, if you are in the Poughkeepsie area, they meet on Thursdays at Vassar Brothers College.

Hi,
Congratuations on your surgery. During the liquid stage I found it easier to use the "supermilk" 1 cup skim milk...mixed with 1/3 cup non-fat dry milk. And don't worry about the ounces of protein...worry about the grams...try to get 60 grams a day. Once you can do soft food..I found that whipped lo-fat cottage cheese was a good high-protein food. My taste buds were wacky right after surgery. About 3 weeks in they returned to normal. Just remember...grams not ounces...Good Luck...it is all worth it.

Hi, i just want to thank EVERYONE for all your wonderful input and suggestions!! I have no clue where i would be without this board!! WELL< probably in the ER from a nervous breakdown trying to cope with all this!! ANYWAY, i have tried a few more different variations, and have been managing to get in a bit more, not the 60-80grams yet, but more like40-50grams. Seems everyday day gets a little better! OH, did i mention i LUV my scale! Everyday its just a lil less!! Woohoo
