losing my hair
No matter how much protein you take, or biotin or zinc, you are gonna lose hair. Everyone is different with the amount. Don't worry though, it grows back and its much better afterwards.
If you aren't a meat eater than you need to find protein shakes that will work for you. Go to www.vitaldy.com and order packets of protein samples before you buy the big jugs. Try their Champion Protien powder. The chocolate is great .
I now am 4 years out and the hair still starts falling out more if I do not get in enough protein. I can tell if I have been slipping on the protein by looking at the bathtub drain and hairbrush. Your hair will thin but I have never heard of anyone going bald. My Dr is balding and he used to tell us, don't worry you won't look like me. I used to make SF pudding and add extra protein powder. They also have unflavored protein powders that they say you can add to almost anything. Buth this I had not tried.
Good Luck

Holly,
Hello hun ~hugs~ I know this really stinks but it happens to most if not all of us! Just try to stay on top of the protein (shakes and such) and what helped me in the past is the Stallone Protein puddings, I really liked them and wish they had them when I had my surgery. I might go back to eating them because I know I am not getting all my protein in and I can see it in my hair as well, I am just over 2 years out and notices more hair loss again so I have to up the protein. Remember it takes 3 months to see the added protein in our system from what "they" say.
Also what helped me through that time was cutting my hair short!
It helped getting it back to looking healthy as well but I am not cutting it again and will work through the fallout.
I hope that helped some ~Hugs~

I wished that I could say something to make
you feel better ........but I'm busy being in denial myself.
Hey - I can get a 2 for 1 special on a Dolly Parton wig! ( Only kidding ) You have to have a sense of humor with some of the things that we are going through and I couldn't resist.
I'm listening to everyone on the board and just going with the flow. Don't skip your protein. It will grow back.
Good Luck~~
Diane

I am with some of the others. You need to find a protein supplement that you like and can drink. Vitalady is a great place to start with samples. It is impossible to get in the 80 gm of protein that we require through eating food (at least for me it is anyways). I am addicted to the syntex nectar protein. I love the fuzzy navel. The crystal sky and strawberry kiwi isn't bad either. I can't do any of the choc and vanilla flavor stuff. I like the fruit juicy stuff. YUMMO!!!!
My daughter is about 4 months out and she is loosing some hair now but she has long waist length hair that is thick so she is not so concerned. Me on the other hand. I am not yet 3 months out and if I start loosing I will be bald in a week......lol.
Good luck with finding something you like and can tolerate.
Sally

Hi Holly,
I know the frustration of hair fallout. I took Biotin from 4 months pre-op and made sure I got enough protein. My hair still fell out for 6 months. (from 4 months post-op to 10 months post-op) My hair was thin prior to surgery, so for me....it's wig time. Actually, since I never had straight thick hair, I'm kinda enjoying my wigs. But, if I have to, I can go out with my own hair in a ponytail....just not as glamourous!!!
As far as tiring of eggs and not being much of a meat eater....I'm with ya there. I don't particularly enjoy eggs by themselves, but I loooove quiche, so that's how I get in my protein. Eggs, cheese, veggies...yum! And when using low fat cheese and egg subsititutes, you can prepare it with a low calorie high protein outcome.
If you're interestd in a few recipes, let me know. In the meantime, I'll leave ya with somethin' someone said to me when I was fretting over losing my hair...."THIN AND BALD is better than FAT AND DEAD".
All the best!
