I'm starting my journey looking into WLS.  Now that I've "crept" up to 294lbs...its time! I live in NYC and there are several good surgeons in the city, however, its not just the surgeon but the practice that makes all the difference.  With that said I wanted to know if anyone has had experience with Marc Bessler at NY Presbyterian or their bariatric practice.  At this point i'm interested in the Lap Band.  Any and all comments welcome. Thanks!

Marj- incharj heard good things about Bessler . For lap band I've heard that Dr's Ren and fielding at NYU are best. But you need to feel comfortable with the surgeon .That makes all the difference.

I went to NY Presbyterian  Cornell, and had a GREAT experience with Dr. Alfons Pomp and Dr. Garnier. Ask them about duodenal switch, the other weight loss surgery. Check it out at www.weightloss-surgery.com  The cornell program is also great because it has nutritionists on staff who spend a lot of time with you preop and post op and are always available for phone calls or e-mails to tweak your diet.  If Bessler works with these two pros, he's probably good too. I've actually heard negatives about the NYU program and Dr. Ren in particular. I guess everyone has their reasons to like or dislike a surgeon.
