Big Medicine Last Night

Anybody else watch last night's episode?   I was a little icked out by a couple of the things in it.  That poor man with the urethra problem? I wasn't very comfortable with the way that was handled.  The way the father kept trying different things and being undecisive about whether he wanted hel*****t.  Also, how sterile is an operating room if the doors keep being opened and closed and Garth keeps sticking his un-steralized head in and out of the room?   Then? When he had to open up that drain and that man was literally crying on the table?  Holy cow, that was hard to see.   Sometimes when I'm watching this show it bothers me how the two doctors seem a bit cowboy-ish when it comes to doing procedures.  I know they talk about caring for their patients, but sometimes I feel like they really just get off on surgery.  Know what I mean?  Like they want to do as many as they can, and be "the best one" at it more for their own ego than what's best for the patients.   I love watching the show, and I think they are both good people, but last night's ep put me off a little bit.   Anyone else got any thoughts?

I don't find either of the Doctors at all "cowboy-ish". It's clear you haven't spent time around many hospitals but many people haven't so it's understandable. What did you expect the Doctor to do when the man came in with the infection? Just send him home in pain? Did you miss the part when the Doctor was finished where the patient thanked him and told him he felt better already? As for the operating room--you would HATE to see what really goes on. The Doctor may have been sticking his head in and out and there is NOTHING wrong with that it happens every day. It's not like he was holding explosives over an open wound waiting to see what might happen or putting broken glass into an infection. Do you think these Doctors much less TLC would risk something dangerous and life threatening knowing it's being nationally televised?

Wow.  I don't know if you meant to sound like you were jumping down my throat or not, but that's how it feels on this end.

I never said that they shouldn't help the man with the drain, I just said it was hard to watch.  It's hard to watch anyone in pain.  Geez.   I actually come from a family of RNs and grew up hanging around hospitals and medical facilities and I worked for a large medical practice in the past.  I know all about doctors and nurses and hospitals.

I also never said anything about dangerous or life threatening events.  I simply said that I was uncomfortable with what I saw.

I didn't mean for it to sound or come across as if I was jumping down your throat, if it came off that way I apogolize. This isn't the only board this topic has been discussed on since last nights show and you did ask for anyone else's thoughts, I simply stated my thoughts. Again I sincerely apogolize if I seemed I was flaming your or jumping down your throat that was not my intention, I was simply stating my thoughts and opinions as you opened the topic.

It's okay.  This is the only board that I read and post on, so I don't know about other conversations.  Your thoughts are as valid as mine and we're all free to post as much as we want to.  I didn't intend for my post to sound like a slam or harsh critism of the show.  I enjoy the show immensely and I also think it's good to see the good, the bad and the ugly.  For some reason. last night's show just pushed a button in me.

I really enjoy the show and it is good to see the "not so good" side of WLS, this is not all fun and games at times and I for one like to see the good and the bad. I hate to see shows that show only the good and happy times as that is not the real of it! Things need to be done and taken care of that are not really pleasant to see or hear but it is the facts! For me, watching the PS is what I am really into watching now since that will be my next step and glad to see that next week they are bringing another patient that is having that done. Thanks for sharing hun, this is why we have this board to chat and offer our thoughts...

If you dare to venture to the main board, the producer of the show has a thread, and he's taking suggestions. So many people post there, you might have to look a page or 2 back, although it looks like a pretty active thread now.

A lot of people want follow-up on the previous patients (Allen and one more fellow--I do too!)
