OK.
Normally I don't talk about my BM's but I had my first one today since the surgery. It was BLACK! Is that normal? I didn't eat anything that was black, actually quite the opposite. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Debi, I would call your Dr just in case but if I remember correctly it might be the extra blood that was in your system from your surgery. I know I had a BM like that as well. Good that you had one and all is working correctly. Take care and get your rest hun

Debi, I was a little worried after my surgery too.  I really didn't have a normal BM until I started more solid food.  I had the "runs" for the first 10 days.  You might want to check with the Dr...just in case...never hurts to check. Hope you are feeling better... Rosemary

Debi, After surgery for the first few days mine were black and runny. I know gross!! My doctor said that that was normal. Hope that helps! Congrats on surgery!! Tara

I would bet that it's a combination of old blood from the surgery (fresh blood is the typical bright red, OLD blood becomes very dark/almost black), and bile buildup which can range from dark green to black. but as others have said.... doesn't cost anything to call your surgeon just to get his opinion over the phone... if he's concerned, he'll either have you come in, or tell you to go to the emergency room.
