Inquiring Mind. Seeking NYC residents that have..

Seeking NYC residents that have flown out of JFK to have gastric bypass surgery [GBS] in Bogota, Colombia via Affordable Bariatrics(.com) recently. They're awesome, never had a fatality and very few complications. I've chatted with many post-op patients on other forums on Yahoo that have, but they all seem to be from places like Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Texas etc... Everywhere but NYC. I want the obese New Yorker's experience just dealing with the JFK airport and flight crews. Thanks in advance if you are a post-op patient of Drs. Valencia and Silva and can share some details.

Sorry I can not help you with the flying but I just wanted to say hello I am upstate NY and about 70 miles North of NYC. I have flown out of JFK before and really do not remember anything that was bad but that has been a while ago. Take care and I wish you all the best!

As someone who had a lapband in Mexico, I can tell you that many doctors here will not touch a patient who had surgery out of the country. Also, some of the states you mentioned are closer to Bogota than New York. I was very happy with my lapband, although it was not easy to find a docor here to "take me on" when I developed unrelated problems. I don't know that I would travel that far for as big a surgery as RNY.

First, my apologies for my not listing nearly all the 50 states, including NY/NYC, as well as Canada, from whence the patients do hail from that have had a more than successful GBS under Drs. Valencia and Silvia at the Clinica Sofia Reina in Bogota. What does,and I quote, "some of the states you mentioned are closer to Bogota than New York." have to do with anything? That's silly since you said that you went to Mexico for the lapband. Hmmm.... but I catch your drift.

Thanks for the concern about my finding a doc to take me on if something should arise post~op but rest assured, I'll have my ducks in a row before I carry out my intentions.

So, again for those in the viewing audience, Once again I'm only looking for New Yorkers "that have flown out of JFK to El Dorado Airport to have their GBS performed by Drs. Valencia and Silva". I want to know if they had any difficulty or hassles at either airport or with flight crews or if they were accommodating and patient. I've spoken with and read experiences from patients of theirs from Iowa, Massachusetts, North Carolina and even CANADA, but no New Yorkers. I know they're out there, Dr. Silva told me that they've had them. My problem is that they don't speak up if anyone needs to ask them a question or for their opinion. That, in my opinion, is a disservice to others from the same region as them.
