AFTERCARE: WHERE TO GO FOR FILLS?

Any ideas on where to go for fills? I live in Westchester County, 23 miles from NYC, and will be going for surgery in Mexico. Does anyone have their regular internist do their fills? I can go to NYU Medical Center for fills, $500. for initial consultation, $100. per fill (don't know whether this includes a fluoroscope or not). There's also Columbia-Presbyterian, Dr. Marc Bessler, who will do follow-uo for $300 initial consult, and $160. per fill. Has anyone used either of these places, or have any other ideas? There is a surgical coordinator (not sure what her medical title is) named Dory Ferara...I saw her in her Wantagh,LI office, Long Island bariatrics. She also works out of Lawrence hospital in Westchester; not sure if she sees patients there or if you have to be in that hospital's program (she saw me there for 2 emergencies and she was fabulous) She gives fantastic fills. she also works one or two days a week in Manhattan. Let me know if you want her # and I'll find it.

Hey Pkr, how are you?  I was wondering if you would like to exchange numbers... I had my surgery at Columbia but not with Dr. Bessler but i did see him one time, not saying you shouldn't go there, but I ended up having to change Dr's and now I go to Dr. Fielding which is the best thing i could have done, I know that it's expensive at NYU but it's so worth the money.. All of them at NYU know what they're doing.. Anyway just letting you know aliitle about MY experience.. By the way when i was looking to change dr's I tried all the Drs in Long Island and no one would except me as patient becuase they didn't preform my surgery, The only DR that would EXCEPT me was Dr. Fielding (he's awesome and has the band too)... dory's number is 516 579-0094. When I saw her, the first visit was preceded by a barium swallow, then she started fills in increments. I did a 1 year plan with her; I don't remember how much, but it was unlimited fills. Because of an unrelated condition, I had so many fills/unfills I really got my money's worth!

As I said, I don't know if she sees patients privately in Wetchester, but she definately does in NYC & LI.

Forgot to ask, who's doing your banding in Mexico?

You are doing the responsible thing; too many people go to Mexico without aftercare lined up. I used Dr. Ortiz & was very happy with him. (just in case i'm confusing you, I had a lapband in '04, was very happy, but developed Nutcracker Esophagus, very rare, but it made the lap band impossible to fill.) Revised to RNY on 6/18.
