Flinstone vitamins?
Hi again!
I have been reading that people take Flinstone vitamins post-op. I am not sure I'm going to like the Optisource (tried'em already).
I just wanted to know what my other options are. Also, post-op what other supplements should I be taking daily? Calcium? Vitamin B12?
I plan on doing some shopping this week-end for some post-op stuff so I am prepared when I get home, seeing I live alone. I know that Tops has the s/f popsicles on sale this week for $1.00 a box. I also want to go to BJ's to see if they have the bigger boxes of Carnation s/f Breakfast drinks. (anyone know if they do)
I hear so many bad things about the protein shakes I am so confused on which one to buy.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I eat 2 Flintstone vitamins and 2 viactiv calcium chews a day.
My doc suggested these. He said he takes the viactiv...lol OMG if you think you'll miss chocolate, try the sugar free FUDGIES!
45 cals a pop! YUMMILICIOUS! I have tried all of the big name crappy SOY AND WHEY proteins.
YUCKIES! I love the S/F Carnation Chocolate!

I didn't like the Flinstones, they were too sweet for me. My surgeon's office gave me a script for chewable pre-natal vitamins that were pretty good. I did them for awhile, then when I was able to swallow a pill, I went to the one-a-day vitamin for woman. I still do 2 viactiv chews each day. YUM-O!
I also do one shake a day still, the 100% Designer Whey protein is my favorite in Chocolate. I have tried others, but this is one I can tolerate and the taste is pretty good too. I get it at Eckerd (Soon to be Rite-Aid)
I love the sugar free creamsicles and popsicles. I had a hard time giving up my ice cream, but the creamsicles have just enough of the cream to remind me of the ice cream. DELISH!
Good luck!
Hi Molly,
Thanks for the info!! I think I might try that 100% designer Whey protein shake. I love the carnation s/f chocolate like Cheri, but I think they only have 16gr of protein, which isn't bad but from what I hear it is hard to get all your water and your proteins in early on. So I think the higher the protein the better.
I have looked for other frozen sugar free treats but all I can find are the popcicles. Where do you guys find the fudgcicles and creamcicles? I normally shop at Tops.
Thanks again ladies!!

I too, use the Carnation instant breakfast for my protein, but I add 1/3 cup of non-fat dry milk to the whole mix...so that is : 1 cup fat free milk, 1 pouch CIB, whatever flavor you choose, and 1/3 cup dry instant dry milk. I usually whirl it up in the blender, or put it in the Tupperware gravy shaker, if I am on my way out the door. This will give you 21 grams of protein, and really tastes pretty good. When I have the time, I will heat the the Chocolate in the microwave, and it makes me feel like a warm snowy morning sipping a nice cup of hot chocolate...yummmy!!!. I have also found used the the Vanilla Instant breakfast...same mixture, and tossed in a couple of iced cubes, and part of a"tube' of instant Orange Drink. The kind that you use to make your bottle of water into an orange drink. This makes it tastes like a liquid creamsicle!!! I had my Lap RNY in April, I am down 60 pounds, and am always looking for new ways to get my protein, especially when I am in a hurry in the morning and trying to get out the door on my way to work. Hope this helps. Look for Blue Bunny No Sugar added, flavored with Splenda Fudgsicles for the best treats ever at 35 calories each! I find them at Walmart.
Thanks!
I tried for the first time the popsicle brand of s/f fudgcicles and let me say....Yummo!! I had 4 of them yesterday!! LOL I haven't had chocolate in the past month and a half other than the CIB. They really hit the spot!! Can I have those on my clear liquid diet after ? I know I can have the s/f popsicles.

We don't have a BJ's, but rather a Sam's Club. They are pretty much the same and sadly, no sugar-free Carnation Instant Breakfast in the bulk-size boxes. I love those too! I actually add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to the chocolate s-f Carnations, and it tastes like a Chocolate Malt- Yum!
I did the water-soluble test this weekend on my cupboard-full of vitamins and chucked many of them. I just read that if you drop a vitamin in a glass of water, it should dissolve within 15 minutes. If it does not, they are likely passing through you undigested and not doing you any good at all.
'Here are my results:
Keepers (dissolved readily) Thrown Away (non-dissolving) Flintstones Complete Sam's Club version of Flintstones Centrum Advanced One-A-Day for Women Hope this helps!

I ordered a bunch of samples from vitalady.com of different proteins so we could try them. We love the fuzzy navel made with crystal light peach tea.........YUMMY!!!! We also like the watermelon flavor. Don't care for the choc or vanilla ones and I make them all with water. They give us about 30 gm per serving so two a day sure help to boost the protein count.
As far as the vitimans, I have just stuck with Dr. C's recommendation of the optisourse because then I don't have to bother with any of the other supplements (at least at this time...........will continue to watch the labs though). The doctors office told me if I took something else then I would have to take the extra b-12, calcium, iron, ect.ect....
Oh by the way, you can get the fuzzy navel protein at vitashoppe. I went to the one on Walden Ave. It was $29.99 for the 2lb container. The other flavors we like I order off the internet. The samples are the best way to go if your not sure what your going to like.
Good luck to you and have fun shopping.......... it is so exciting to get everything ready.
