Hi there,  I met with Dr. Kini in May.  He is great.  He made me feel comfortable, and he answered all my questions.  Also Mt.Sinai is a Bariatric Center of Excellence, and he has a great staff.  I had met with a few other surgeons prior to Dr. Kini, and as soon as we spoke I knew he was the one.  We decided the RNY was best for me!  Let ne know if ther is any thing else I can help you with. Shara

Thanks for the tip Shara I looked into this about six years ago and back then it seemed that Mt. Sini was a really good place. I called today and set up an apointment for august. Im not sure what surgery to choose but i guess he will lead me in the right path. If you dont mind me asking why did you choose the RNY over the band? Have you had your surgery yet? thanks again Jenn

My doctor is Dr Mitchel Roslin with Lenox Hill Hospital. Before I went with Dr Roslin I met doctors from NYU as well as Mt Sini and the instant I met Dr Roslin I knew he was the doctor I wanted. I had the RYN over the lapband because I have PCOS and the results for patients with PCOS RYN is the best option with the greatest success. Don't be afraid to see more than two or even three different doctors! Ask questions find out their rate of success, how many procedures they have done, followup care, etc... And DO NOT let anyone talk you into the band or RYN if your not completely sure. When I went to NYU I was told my only real option was the band and that is so NOT the case had I went with what they said I wouldnt be sitting almost a month out of surgery with a loss thus far of 38 pounds and counting. ALL THE BEST!!

Thank you so much for the referal. im really confused to what is the best option. I guess i need to talk to alot of people and the doctors to get the feel on what works best. I do know i do not want to go threw all this and not have good results but i am scared of the risk's. I here that there is better and quicker results with RNy but in the future it all winds up being the same. Is this true? I also heard that it with the lap band you have more controll over the stomach streching out because you can keep going for the saline injections. They told me that eventually if you eat alot you can gain weight back with gastric bypass thanks again Jenn

Dr. Kini helped be in decideing which would be good, even though both were an option fore me.  I also met with Dr. Roslin, I felt rushed and he did not answer all my questions.  My 1st choice was Dr. Kurain who performed Al Roker's surgery, but she left for NYU.  Yes Dr. Kini's staff is busy, bet they are helpful, and Mt. SInai is a Center of Excellece, and they also let you use your own doctors( nutritionits, etc).  It is a personal choce on who you feel is the one!  Good Luck!! Shara

I consulted with Dr. Kini, but have not yet decided whether to use him. I am having a vertical gastric sleeve and he is using a larger size stomach than I want.

Also his office staff was HORRIBLE!

I did like him though.

I consulted with Dr. Kini last month. I liked him, but was unhappy with the size of the stomach he is choosing to create (I am having a vertical sleeve gastrectomy).

I also, thought his staff was HORRIBLE!

I don't want to influence anyone's choices when it comes to picking their doctor but this is one of the reasons I didn't go with Dr. Kini. I adore my doctor. Dr Roslin is the doctor who did Al Roker's surgery and with great success in all his patients. He will listen to you take into account any comorbidity factors you may have and let you be the one to decide which procedure you have.

The office staff is second to NONE!! They are so nice, helpful, they think ahead and prepare you for everything you need from test to paperwork. There is a NUT in his office and you can even use your own psychatrist if you chose, I have my own and he was more than happy to work with Dr Roslin even though he is connected to NYU he highly recommended Dr Roslin. Remember above all this is your life and your decision. If your in NYC and would like to met I'd be happy to met you and share my experience thus far with the bypass, I'm almost a month out and I'm not an expert but I will be very honest with you about myself and what I've been though. All The Best
