Gallstones/Vitamin Deficiency
Hi Gang,
It urns out that I have 1 Gallstone, but its huge. Has anyone had their gallbladder removed during their surgery? Do you know if the recovery period is the same? And has anyone had any vitamin deficiencies prior to surgery, if so did this delay/affect anything? I hhad no clue I had these issues until now.

I actually called Dr. Kini's office today to make sure all my tests and letters were coming in. I also asked about the results of my blood test and sonogram. I am guessing I probably have gallstones as well. I had a friend have her's out on thursday and was shopping all day saturday. It was just gallbladder surgery, but it's not a huge thing. During wls is may prolong recovery. Have you gotten your date yet?
Shara,
Hi if you want them to do the galbladder and rny at the same time it has to be done open not laproscopic. If you have it out at the same time you will have two drain tubes instead of one and the healing process is the same as rny but probally a little more pain associated with it. But thats what they invented pain medicine for. Were you palnnnig on open or laproscopic?
Sheila
I hd open RNY on May 16th and they removed my gallbladder at the same time. I didn't have any tests for it pre-operatively. My surgeon just looks at it during all surgeries and if it is not healthy it is removed. He said had he not removed mine I would have been very sick post-operatively. My recovery time was no different then if he hadn't taken it out. I just had two drains in the hospital instead of one. I don't believe there was any additional pain, but then I had nothing to judge it on. Never had surgery before, but I found the pain to be minimal.
Good Luck
Sally
