1st Post-Op Visit
Just got home; MY DRAINS ARE OUT. I was afraid they wouldn't come out because I had had an infection at one of the drain sites--
I told the PA that if she didn't take them out, I was going to jump out the window. That said, when she removed the JP drain, I almost did jump out the window! But the pain was totally gone in 5 minutes or less.
I lost 11 lbs. I had kind of hoped it would be a little more, but I gained 8 lbs. in the hospital from fluids and also went from diuretic BP meds to regular. So I guess I'm doing well. I feel good, still tired but looking forward to walking when the weather turns cooler tomorrow.
I can feel my taste buds changing--I'm not craving sweets. When I take my Viactive, they are too sweet. On my next visit they'll change me to a calcium pill.
Last nigit I had split pea soup that I love from a restaurant. I quizzed the chef to death that it didn't have fat or suger added. It was so good.
I also saw an angel in the doc's office, but that's a story for someone else to tell.
You have all helped me get to the losers' bench, and your support has been invaluable.
Take care,

Thanks, Chelle & Britt.
You know what's funny, Britt, when you said welcome to onderland, which I appreciate greatly, I felt a little guilty that I started at "only" 210 lbs. When I first got my lapband in 2005 I was 232 lbs. I almost felt that I had to go all the way back up until I was "entitled" to the RNY
Never mind that my BP was getting really bad, I had to keep increasing my diuretics and could barely walk down the street without huffing & puffing. But I know I deserve this second chance, and I'm gonna work it so it works.
I just called the PA's office asking her to please call me back & repeat EVERYTHING she said--I didn't take notes and when she pulled out the drain, I forgot every single word she said, except 4 yucky viactives instead of 2.

congratulations on your 11lb weight loss. that is great. You will be at your goal in no time. it viactives might have to much sugar in them for you and you might dump from them . I would get the optisource chewables they have every thing you need in them even Biotin. which is for hair loss and nails. I think the viactives had like 4 gram of sugar for one. Take care of your self.

Karen,
First off...YOU are an angel too! It was great to see you today. You looked great; I didn't even recognize you. You look SO much younger than when I met you at Dr. Garber's support group. RNY has been very good to you!
Second: I never once took Viactiv. I feared the sugar intake, so I took TUMS. 2 in the morning, 2 at night. They have sugar in them but far less. Oddly, he sugar free TUMS have more carbs so I took the regular ones. That was what Sharon had recommended (check the papers she gave you Pre-op).
Third: I am about to post about that other bit of news that you heard about this afternoon at Dr. Garber's office. Oddly, I felt ashamed to talk about it. Maybe it was more fear of saying it until it was done!
Keep in touch and let's meet for coffee/tea or just to talk when you feel up to it.
HUGS,
Karen
Amazing how we perceive ourselves. Here I was sitting in Dr. Garber's waiting room, feeling so ugly w/no make up, looking 7 months pregnant, in flip-flops w/hairy legs...in walks this knock-out, Karen. I thought you didn't recognize me because I looked so bad!
I'll buy the Tums tomorrow--Sharon had recommended them, but the P.A didn't sound thrilled.
'night all.
