DRAIN

I don't want to sound really stupid, but I keep reading posts where people are talking about a drain being taken out, etc.  I have no idea what that is.  Do all surgeons use them?  I have read the information that I have received from the Doctor more than once and also on his website but I don't see anything in there about it.  Maybe that is something that they explain on the last visit before surgery.  Please help

(Nope, you do NOT sound stupid. Ask away - we are here to help each other!!!!) Not all surgeons use drains.  Ask your surgeon. hugs, Britt

If you have open RNY, most likely you'll have a drain for one week but definitely ask your doctor about it.

Hi, Dr. Garber sends all of his patients home with 2 drains. They stay in for one week. Then they are removed in the office.  As Britt said, every surgeon is different. Yours will be an OPEN RNY so like other people said, the chances of drains are good. I'd call the office and find out if you are worried. Best of luck! Karen

Hi, I had my open on 5/10/07 with Dr Caruana...I had a drain, but they removed it the morning I came home from the hospital.  Don't worry...its kind of a pain when you get up...but, its do-able.
