Help with Psych Consult Doc...

Hi Ladies, Would like to know who and how much you paid for your Psych consult.. Just got a call back from some I left a message for and they wanted to charge $500 (isnt that a bit much). I have to pay out of pocket anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced psych in the NY Metro area. Thanks!

good question, i'm not sure because i didn't have to pay out of pocket but i sure as heck wouldn't pay more then $150-200 if they write out a report! How many visits did you get for $500? ANDI

That's way too much unless they want to see you for 6 visits. I'm sure that someone here will have a suggestion for a Doc in your area. I was lucky - my insurance covered mine.

Hi, What insurance do you have?  I have Oxford.  Oxford covers 50%.  My total out-of pocket was $100. I see you are in Queens, NY.  So am I.  Who are you considering or have as your surgeon? Shara

i used a guy that my surgeon recomended he put half of it thru  insurance and the other half was out of pocket around 65 dollars   it shouldnt be more then 125  keep looking around this guy was in mineola.........the report was on the docs desk the very next morning and my appt was 8pm.......... as your doc to recomend someone Stacy

Did you call the psych your surgeon's office recommended?  If not, you should see who they recommend and if they will taken the report from anyone else.  Also, you may be able to submit the charge to your insurance and get some of it back under out of network coverage. Best of luck. Mary

I was given a list of Psych to call from and one the them was going to charge me 350!  I have United HealthCare and they don't cover this service.  The others I called were around the same price 150.00  not too bad.  They are mostly in Manhattan, Bronx, and upstate.  If you want I can email you that list.

Thank you all for your responses.. I actually found one that charges $175.  I am going to use him and submit it to the insurance as out of network and see if I get reimbursed some.  Thanks again!!
