Arnot-Ogden Patients?

I was curious about visiting at Arnot-Ogden.  I'm supposed to be in the hospital for a minimum of three days.  During that time, my family is going to want to visit me.  I was checking out the Arnot-Ogden website regarding visiting hours and it says that children under 14 years of age are not allowed.  My girls are 11 and 13 years old. I'm wondering if they really enforce the rule or will they let my girls come in to see me.  Did anyone have surgery at Arnot-Ogden and did they allow minors to visit you?

Hi, Lie and say they are 14. They don't ask for birth certificates. Maybee your 11 year old won't be able to get in but your 13 yr old will for sure.  I think it is a stupid rule to have to be 14. I think over 8 is a good age. good luck with everything. Sheila

They did not enforce that at all when we visited momsgrouchy. My dd was seven and there was no one even at the front desk, and the nurses on the floor watched us and smiled at her while we walked the halls with momsgrouchy. I know her young daughters also visited and I think they are 4 and 10. Hey, did your approval come through???? Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

No, they most certainly do not enforce that rule. That's funny that it's even on there! My dad has been in the ICU & in Arnot for nine weeks this Sunday. My nephew, who's 5, has visited him during his stay, as long as it's in the general population and not in the ICU. We have to keep him within our reach so that he doesn't stray, but you should have absolutely no issues with an 11 & 13 year old. However, if you stay in ICU at all because of your BMI being over a certain number, you might have issues there. They don't allow children to go into the ICU. My advice is to just have someone bring them in and if the nurses don't allow it, you talk to the nurses and see if they'll be allowed to visit briefly. Otherwise, they'll have to adhere to the no visitors until you leave ICU, which will be only one day. (if you have a high BMI) The visitors hours for the ICU are:  12 to 12:30, 2 to 2:30, 5 to 5:30 and 7:30 to 8. Really, the only time the nurses in the ICU say anything is if the head nurse is there. Otherwise, they overlook stuff. And pray you get Deb or Jeanette or Patty! These ladies are amazing! Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. I had my surgery there and had an amazing experience!!! Jen Halliday

Thank you Jen.  I have a relatively low BMI (43) so I don't think I'll have a problem.  I think they told me that I would spend one day on ICU because I have sleep apnea and all apnea patients have to go to ICU for the first day.  We'll see if that happens or not.   Thanks again for the info, I feel better know that it shouldn't be an issue.
