It still hurts--
and I feel like I should be feeling better.
Still taking pain meds pretty much round the clock.
I'm not feeling gas, although a bowel movement right about now sure would feel good.
I've gone for walks around the block, walk around the house, eat & drink fine, no bad drainage or fever.
I'm not being a baby--I've had a bi-lateral mastectomy w/tram flap recon, so I know what pain is. At least this is only 2 drains & 1 JP--that was like 10!
Sorry for whining, but I thought that I'd be feeling less pain & notice it getting better each day, at least more than minisculely.
ALSO, I'm afraid to lie on my back...it's so uncomfortable lying on this stupid husband (not mine, the cushion w/arms) or the recliner.
All suggestions welcome, and again, sorry for whining.

I wonder if the excess pain could be due to the fact that they took out your port at the same time as the RNY. I didn't have bad pain at all. In fact, my throat hurt more than my stomach ever did. Yeah, sleeping wasn't easy nor was getting out of bed but in general, the pain was like a 1-2 on a scale of 1-10. My sore throat was a 58...off the chart. No one else I know had that which just goes to show: we are all different in how we heal.
Having said that: I would call Dr. Garber if the pain isn't decreased by tomorrow (Monday).
Please keep me posted and feel free to call if you need to talk.
Hugs,
Karen
Are you getting out and walking some, I'm wondering if you have trapped gas bubbles, those hurt like the dickens and I found walking alleviated some of the pain, try taking a gax X or two and see if that helps a bit. If the pain doesn't abate by Monday morning i'd give the surgeon a call and let him know. I didn't need any pain pills when i got home but I do a lot of breathing exercises because pain meds frighten me. Have you tried any meditation? ANDI
Hi Karen I know exactly how you feel I too was in a lot of pain in the beginning, it will get better . Keep smelling the drain and checking your incisions if they look ok I wouldn't worry too much. That gas can settle in places you never expected for me it was my shpulder I cried it hurt so bad and I have a very high tolerence for pain . Take the gas x and keep up the walking . Good luck and feel better. By the way my appt. is 12:00 on Thurs. What time is yours? Hugs Lori
Thanks, all.
O *** the bathroom thing? Don't you'all think day 6 is a little long to go without a bowel movement? If I don't have one today, I think I'll call Dr's office & ask if I can take some Mirilax.
BTW, I did lie on my back last night w/pillows under my head/shoulders. Getting up was no picnic, but sleep was great.

By the time I got to call Dr. Garber this a.m., I was running over 101. He immediately prescribed leviquin. Didn't like the way one of the drains was looking as I described it. I KNEW something was wrong.
Having taken MOM twice yesterday, I went nicely this a.m., so between the two I feel much bettter. Sweating like a PIG because of the fever, but much better. Only took pain meds twice today.
So, I gained 8 lbs. in the hospital from the fluids and have lost that. Does the weight loss begin now?
