I have a question. My daughter had gastric bypass today and a feeding tube was put in as a precaution. The doctor told her she had narrow intestines and the tube would be in for three to four weeks. I am concerned, can someone explain this to me

Hello, I have heard of this but not sure why they do it. I did not have one and not really sure why they do that. Talk to her Dr and let him/her know your concerned. I wish her all my best!

Hi, I would ask this doctor what this "narrow intestines" are about.  Is she having another surgery to fix this "narrow intestines"?  When you say feeding tube, what exactly do you mean?  Did they put a PICC line in the arm for TPN or a gastric tube in the belly for TPN or the gastric tube to drain stuff out?  I would be more concerned w/the narrow intestines, get some info from the doctor b/c something doesnt sound right. Good luck and I wish you and your daugher nothing but the best.

My doctor did this when I had my rny. It's done just in case there are any complications. I ended up needing it 3 weeks out, because I developed a stricture and couldn't swallow. I had to put Ensure in my feeding tube, this was the only way I could get any nutrients, until I could be scoped. The tube was annoying than painful. My doctor removed it 7 weeks later. I was able to speak with one of the doctors today. The intestine is swelling which is causing it to have a narrowing affect. Hopefully the swelling will subside  and in three to four weeks the feeding tube will be taken out. I was told it is for precaution. I know my daughter is one sore puppy even today and very very down.I keep reassuring her  that  I believe all of this is temporary and she will go on to have a wonderful full happy life as most of the patients dream of. And as her father, my prayers will be answered.
