Hi all,
... My surgery date is in July and I was just curious as to how long do I have to wait before I can go swimming ?
I know you can't bathe right after but you can shower a couple days out.....right?

Debi, I would check with your surgeon to see how long he/she wants you to wait but I was able to shower as soon as I got home from the hospital but I had to wrap my tummy and drains with the press and seal wrap. It worked so awesome and kept me so dry. I forgot how long they said for swimming but it was a little longer then showering that is for sure.

On my post op instructions from the hospital upon discharge they had no bathing listed.  Showers only . Didn't give a time frame so I am not really sure.  Make sure you ask Dr. C when he does rounds.    Sally

Hi We were allowed to shower right away by just letting the water flow on your body. We were not allowed to submerge our bodies in water till our bandages fell off and thats with the LAP procedure. Make sure you ask your surgeon before you submerge in water.

I was allowed to shower, but not tub bathe as long as I didn't scrub my incisions. They used some sort of glue to seal the incisions that even ater  a litte more than a week they're still just barely sealing over the wounds.  If youre doing an "open" RNY it may be entirely different though. best to be safe and ask your surgeon or the nurse there.

Hi Debi, My surgeon gave me the approval to shower when I got home from the hospital.  I was allowed to swim one week post op.  I had open RNY and I am going to say every surgeon is different with what he/she wants and I would think each procedure whether open RNY or Lap RNY follows different rules.

I just had lap rny and one week appt with phy he said no swimming for 4 weeks and if was open 8 weeks.  Bacteria, chlorine and chance of hernia are risks not worth taking.

A girls gotta find some fun somewhere.

Thanks to all of you for responding. I guess every Dr is different. I will have to ask the next time I go there.

Thanks Again!!!
