Good Morning All,

Question:  I am almost 2 weeks post op and still on my liquid protein meals...I have looked thru all the info I have on hand but cant seem to find or remember what is the maximum amount of fat/sugar any soft food should contain. I am ready to start 1 soft protein meal a day and want to be prepared.

Thanks as always!!!!!

As per my NUT she says to follow the 5% rule: as long as the fat % is 5% or below and the carbohydrate % is 5% or below it is an acceptable food to eat.  You should call and ask what your surgeons group says. hugs, Britt

Jane, I had the same Dr as Britt so the 5% rules worked well at the start!  I wish you the best! I know for me there was nothing set in stone and every Dr's is different, it can get so frustrating as well. They all said give it a try and see what works for you....well who wants to just try and get sick! Keep us posted!

The instructions from the nutritionalist at my surgeons office states no more then 5 gm sugar or fat and 10-15 gram carbs per serving.   Hope this helps.  Sally

Basically you should keep the sugar intake as low as possible so soon out. You don't want to start dumping.  I wasn't able to tolerate mor ethan 4 grams of suger in the beginning. But gradually as time went on, I was able to tolerate more.

Jane: As everone else stated each bariatric program differ. Mine NEVER gave info on fat (rememer we do malabsob that to some extent) but we do not malabsorb sugar ever so that is the coern w/ dumping/wt regain not enough loss, so keeping it in single digits per serving was the guide (9g or less). Consider more intuiitive eating vs continuing rigid counting etc it may serve you better in the longrun; this is not to say don't be aware and fill self w/ health things but we can get so caught up in 'diets & rules' that we are still missing the most important part LIVING and tuning into our EMOTIONS. Be wel! HUGS!
