Roux-en Y or Lap band
Hi Shara,
I've had the lap band for 2+ years and THROUGH NO FAULT OF THE BAND have to have it removed. I developed something called Nutcracker's esophagus (don't worry, only about 1 in a million people get it, and again, I stress it has absolutely nothing to do w/the band.) Anyway, my fills would start out great then close up. I had all kinds of tests including a minometry to diagnose it.
ANYWAY, I had to have it unfilled completely and am having it removed in June (hopefully, because I want to have RNY at the same time) My insurance will cover the band removal, but we are submitting all the paperwork for the RNY. I regained 50 lbs. of the 85 I lost. My BMI is only 36.5 now; "luckily" I have hypertension. I'm hoping for approval. I cannot keep the weight off on my own because of my eating habits--I am a total sweet addict. When I was able to have my band filled I found the discipline to stay away from sweets--when it had to be unfilled I lost all motivation.
I never thought I'd want RNY, now I pray for approval. I'm even praying to be diagnosed w/sleep apnea tomorrow night when I go to the sleep center--at least that would be the clincher!
hope this helps a little.
Karen
