Hi all! A friend of mine was hoping to have WLS and the Dr she went to told her it was pretty much impossible because she is a vegitarian.....is this true? If anyone has any insight on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Debi

A vegetarian can have weight loss surgery. They have to get all their protein from WHEY. Bean etc. As long as you get in the required amount of protein. Marie

Debi, I would say the same thing that Marie said, there are many that are vegitatians around the site I am sure.....maybe they will post to this as well. Did you try posting this on the main board as well? Debra P

Not to discount a doctor, but it's not only possible, it's probable. There are many vegetarian postops of WLS. They eat balanced foods to glean complete protein or consume whey (or rice and/or soy proteins if they are vegan). Check out some of the links in the library here: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/information/dbsearch.php?Search_Word=vegetarian Good luck to your friend!

Thanks to all that responded. I told her I thought that was wrong....LOL There are other way to get protein other than from meat. I'm sure she will look into it further...with a different Dr this time! Debi
