Protein protein protein!!! (in my best Jan Brady voice)
So, I've been playing a little bit with protein drinks. I have had the Carnation Instant Breakfast before. They only have 5 grams of protein per packet. I haven't added them to my 1% milk yet, jus****er. Last resort for protein for sure!
This morning I tried the EAS Soy Protein - Chocolate flavored. I made it in my Magic Bullet, made it a slushie when I added ice. I can tolerate these! I used 1 cup 1% milk. The mix has 20 grams of protein, the milk 8. Not too bad...28 grams and 280 calories.
I have SPIRU-TEIN Vanilla. It's also a soy protein powder. Haven't tried it yet. This has 14 grams per scoop. So with the milk, will be 22 grams and 289 calories.
I have the Strawberry ATKINS ADVANTAGE cans. 11 oz. can. It has 15 grams of protein and 160 calories.
NOW, I went into the Vitamin Shoppe today. I've seen these IDS 42 test tube thingies. Well, I picked up 2 (fruit punch flavored). One for me and one for a co-worker who is having RNY on July 3rd. I'm going to wait until after surgery to try this. I also went online to their site: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/ and bought 2 grape and an orange. They also sell them by the case. As you can imagine the 42 stands for...42 grams of protein!!!!!!!! 176 calories in the 3.1 fl oz. tube. This will be a sure thing! (hope they taste good...lol)
I received 2 free samples of PROTEIN DELITE from www.bariatriceating.com I haven't tried them yet, either. You can mix the packets with 4 oz of water or skim/1% milk. I selected a fruit flavored (berries, I think). The little packet states there are 10 grams of protein and 55 calories in the packet itself. The second flavor is chocolate. 10 grams of protein and 60 calories.
So, I now have my proteins figured out and won't have to worry about trying to find 50-60 grams per day!

Wait, beer has protein!
HAHA!
(I don't drink beer:P)
Anyone else find something they like?

Hahahha...I'm with Kathy- find a way to add it to coffee! A latte made with skim or 1% with a scoop of proteir powder whipped in there- mmmmmm! I posted to the main bd about this yesterday...my local coffeeshop calls my drink the Hot Skinny Laurie (fat-free-sug-free caramel almond latte). My hubby gets a big hoot out of waking in there and ordering that! I have this littel gizmo calles the Aerolatte (battery operated little whizzer-google it!) that whizzes that powder right in there nicely.
Unjury has a chicken broth that is quite wonderful, and if you're like me and chilly most of the time(and that is Pre-Op!) then having something warm in your hands and tummy is nice. Their choc, strawberry and vanilla are a little sweet for me, but many folks like sweet.
I have also gotten a soy isolate protein powder from our health food store and stirred it into sug-free-fat-free yogurt with a tsp of cool whip. When you get to that point, that is pretty good...the color is gross, but good flavor.
I will try to find that chickie broth! I am cold all the time, or I have a hot flash and need to peel the clothing off! For some reason I could have sworn I smelled chicken broth while I was at a training in Albany today! My senses are going crazy! It's wonderful having so many of us to help each other with personal experiences with our road to the losers bench along with what "foods" might have satisfied us!

Just remember with the bullets (the test tube things) that we can only absorb 30gm of protein at a time. Don't waste your money by drinking it all in 30 min. Same with the pre-made ISOPURE fruit drinks which come in 20oz bottles and have 40gm total. They should be drank half at one time (like the mid morning) and the other half in the afternoon or evening. They taste yummy but they are a little on the expensive side. I would be curious to know what the Vitamin Shoppe charged you for the IDS bullets? Best of luck to you.
