Thanks everyone for their opinions. I have my seminar/consultation set up with Dr. Kurian on Wednesday. I also set up the appointments with te nutritionist and Psychologist for the same day. I can't wait. I already went to Dr. Ren's seminar. Also while at this seminar I found out that Dr. Kurian is moving to NYU. I am split between the two, Dr. Kurian's office you have your consult with the surgeon 1st. At NYU you meet the surgeon last!

I'm with Dr. Fielding for the band in a couple of weeks. I liked his approach as a physician to the surgery - since I'm upstate, I checked on second surgeons closer to home. I also like that he has the band and is one of the leading doctors on this type of procedure. That said, I would also consider Dr. Kurian...she is well-known and wrote the "WLS for Dummies" book that is a really good reference tool. Had I not decided on Dr. Fielding first, I would have also considered her. She is also very good and her patient's all seem to have very good things to say. I don't think you can go wrong either way -- it might come down to the Dr.'s approach or style.

to add to what others have said about Dr Kurian, I can say from personal experience that she has the most warm, compassionate bedside manner I have ever experienced from ANY doctor (well, other than my PCP... but she's like family to me) That said, I'll clarify... Dr Kurian was not my primary surgeon... she assisted my surgeon (Dr Shah) in my Lap-DS. Part of the partnership is that while you're in the hospital, you could be followed up with by EITHER of the doctors in the practice (Kurian, Shah or Roslin). But since you're going for the band, you'll probably only be in the hospital one or maybe two nights barring any complications, so you might only see Kurian. Also, Dr Kurian (not sure about Roslin and Shah) was part of Inamed's clinical trials in the US to get FDA approval for the band.... so that will give you an idea on her experience. I'm not familiar with Ren/Fielding.... they may have been part of the trials too for all I know... I'm just giving you some insight from my research. best of luck.
