I have been staying away from the scale like the plague because, well, that's just the way I am. (Bad experiences from yesteryear.) ONE month checkup at the Dr's. office, they have me down as a 20 lb. weight loss and were very satisfied with that. (no comment) I am now cleared for any kind of exercise that I choose and up until now I have been walking 2 1/2 - 3 miles a day. All my labs were normal, normal, normal of which I am so thankful for. This whole journey is such a trip. I keep saying that with all the research that I did, all the educational meetings that I attended and being on this website - it still surprises me at how much more I have to learn. No matter what, I can honestly say that I wasn't prepared for the actual outcome from surgery. I can't explain it, I just can't. I have to totally relearn new signals that my body sends to me. Some of them are still so foreign, but I'm getting there. It's funny that I can feel so accomplished to have just successfully eaten 3oz. of chicken or mastered the art of eating tuna salad! It's all coming along though. I'm hoping that there comes a time when it will become second nature to me. Right now it is bite...bite..chew...chew...chew...swallow..........???and wait to see what tummy has to say about it. (Waiting for the other shoe to drop.) There are so many emotions entwined with the surgery as well. I am trying very hard to identify what they are. A great many, I'm sure, have to do with losing my sister before she was able to have this surgery. It's a whole mixed bag. I have someone to bounce my thoughts off of. Sooooooo....... right now, if you ask me if I would do it all over again, I would have to tell you that it is honestly just to soon to tell you. This is being simply honest and in no way is meant to scare away the pre - ops. I feel fine, there was never any pain and I'm able to comply with the water, protein and hopefully exercise. I know that 20 lbs. is something that I never would have been able to do beforehand, but maybe I was hoping for at least a little more. P.S. My husband, who loved me since I was 16 yrs. old., is beside me 100%, which helps so much. He sees it as an opportunity to become healthier himself because now he joins me in the walking. He is such a good man. In the year before my daughter's wedding, last May, he was diagnosed with CML which is leukemia. His light hearted attitude and sense of humor have been incredible. We didn't know what was in store for us or even if he would be there for our daughter's wedding, but he is taking a miracle drug that has brought all his numbers down and he got to walk his little girl down the isle. He plays a big part in this new life that I have and I thought that I should mention that. Take Care~~ Diane

I think it sounds like the weight loss is incredible, sweetie! We never know what to expect for our own weight loss until we get there. Some lose faster than others for sure. Bless you and your hubba bubba for such a strong relationship. For that love and support is what it's about! Remember, we're there as back up, too! *~*Blessed Be*~*

Hey Diane: 20lbs in one month is GREAT!!!! think of it like this... would you lose that much if you didn't have the surgery? It's great that you're walking and into being healthy and all..... you'll definitely lose more! It's great to have hubby beside you! that helps a lot as well! You work together now!!!

Hi Diane, Have you tried taking your measurements? This is something that I regret not doing. It's been almost 9 months for me and I''ve lost 100lbs but I can truly remember feeling the way you did. I'm certain that as the months continue to pass, you'll feel differently and mre positive about things. good luck. Maryellen

Congratulations on the 20lbs! But I will say I am experiencing the same thing you are! I don't think I could of ever prepared myself for life after surgery. I just keep telling myself it's permanent and I must adjust! I am sure we will feel much better in a couple months! Good Luck!

Thanks for the Congrats. Maryellen - Hi-you're right about measuring myself. I've been too lazy to get a tape measure. That will be one of my Wknd. missions. Barbara - Hi! Don't laugh. I still am waiting for The Bean to come! I was thinking of that today. I'll go online and call their 1-800#. Bethany - Thanks for validating...great attitude. Take Care~~ Diane

Hi Penny, I am also one month out and I have lost 21lbs. I can totally relate to everything you said. I am still learning to chew, chew, chew, but have still got some learning to do. I think I have chewed my heart out until it comes back up and I see that I failed miserably It's a hard thing to learn when you have 30+ years of devouring your meal in 5 minutes under your belt. I feel pretty good though aside from some minor muscle soreness in my stomach. I have also been walking, not as much as you, but I'm getting there. I walked 3 miles the other day and spent 2 days recuperating I was sooooooooo sore for the next two days! Keep up the good work! Janet

Congratulations on your weight loss so far. I am very happy for you and your hubby. Mine is not very supportive when it come to having the surgery. He is afraid I will die or something. He doesn't think I should have it, I should just keep losing weight like I have. I have only lost weight because I have the goal in sight of the surgery, but he doesn't get it. Anyway, keep up the good work!!! ~~Betsy
