HOW IS EVERYONE DOING TODAY?
I'm doing really well especially since the sun has been peeking through.
Yesterday was ONE month since WLS and I dropped about 22 lbs. I don't think that's too shabby. I followed everyone's advice about not comparing others speed of weight loss to my own.
It's very hard to tell what "cues" my body is giving me. It's as if you have to relearn how to read your body.
For instance, I went to a diner with a good friend. The cottage cheese was not low fat and I didn't know what to do. Wanting to make sure that my choices were good, I then asked for tuna. Well, they didn't have light mayo so I had to eat it dry. LET me tell you... that won't happen again. It was like a brick in the middle of my chest and I started pounding my chest...an awful feeling. My friend thought that something was wrong with my heart and the waiters were flipping out. It was like a slap stick comedy. (Yeah...I can laugh at it now)
I am trying to get 2-3 miles in a day and enjoying it.
Well, that's it for now. I hope that your day is great.
P.S. This Saturday is supposed to be beautiful and 72 degrees

Hi Diane,
I know all too well about the awful feeling in our chests. I've learned NEVER to eat anything dry. That works best for me. I know in the beginning I was more concerned with trying to eat low fat, but now I rarely think of the calories. I just try to control the amount of carbs and sugars. I'm much further out than you, but when I go to a diner, I can eat 1/2 of a bacon cheeseburger (without the bun), the pickle and some coleslaw. It goes down very easily for me. But small bites is the key, and chew, chew, chew. I also like to order egg whites with cheese. Another, (ususlly safe) is whatever soup they are serving. I went to Sbarros the other day with my daughter, not wanting to order pizza, I had 2 meatballs, with extra sauce for dunking with a small salad. I was delicious.
Don't be afraid to try different foods, remember quantity is the issue and chew, chew, chew. what has helped me out tremendously, is that someone told me at a meeting, to cut up your pieces very small, not bigger than dice. Put only one piece in your mouth at a time. If you think of that visual and use it then, chew it well, anything should go down well. I hope this helps you, it has been a lifesaver for me.
good luck,
Maryellen

Hi Penny,
I am just about 3 weeks out and doing well. I have lost 18lbs and I am happy with that. I have not ventured out to eat yet, but I have been trying new things since I was allowed to upgrade to the mushies and the only food I have trouble with is eggs. No matter how much I chew them, I still get that stuck feeling in my chest and can only tolerate a couple of bites. I find myself dieing for a salad though! I know that is a long ways off, but I can't wait. I am not walking as much as you are, but I am walking everyday. I still have some discomfort in my left side where my largest incision is and it starts bothering me after I've walked a bit. I can usually get in a half mile or so and I have been using my 6lb weights to work on my arms. Overall I feel great and would do it again in a heartbeat. I am happy to be going back to work on Monday. I hate being home by myself. I get bored very quickly. We are having a yardsale this weekend so I plan to outside walking around alot and enjoying the sunshine. Enjoy your weekend.

Hi Mary Ellen and Janet!
Mary Ellen - thanks for that advice about keeping the pieces small. So I guess what you are also saying is that the cottage cheese, even though it wasn't lowfat, might have been a better choice because we should be concerned about sugar and quantity first.
Janet - It sounds as if you are doing really well. We are kind of in the same ballpark weight loss wise. What a great Wknd. for a garage sale. Have fun.
Enjoy the weather.

HI Diane:
I'm also down about 22lbs. or so and yesterday was one month since I had the WLS. I'm finding that I'm throwing up A LOTTTTTT..... more than my hubby did. It's either cause I'm eating too fast or the food is just too heavy. I can tolerate most foods but I can't do mac & cheese. The cheese is wayyyyyyyyy too heavy for me. I made some Velveeta shells & chesse for my son and I had I would say maybe a spoonful and I had my head in the toilet. That horrible horrible feeling in the chest -- I know what that feels like. I had like 1/4 of a bagel with a little cream cheese this morning.... forget that! Had my head in the garbage pail. Certain things I still can't do. I went to a BBQ last night and I had a cheeseburger (without the bun) and it took me an hour to finish the whole thing.... it went down nice and no problems! PHEWWWWWWWWWWWW
I've been really good about the sweets too. Didn't have any bday cake in the office and I only have sugar free jello or sugar free pudding or yogurt.... That's it! And I walk everyday when I go to work as well -- probably not as much as you but I do my fair share! LOLLLLLLLL
Congrats on the weight loss. I think we're all doing a good job!
Cindy
