Anyone have/having surgery at NYU?

How far off was your surgery scheduled? I was told it takes three weeks after consult with the surgeon if everything was already taken care of before the consult, but from posts that I'm seeing it seems that it's closer to three months than it is to three weeks. Anyone have experience with them?

Sorry, not me. My sis is interested in surgery now. She lives in the Bronx. Is there where she would go?

They are supposed to be top surgeons. Combined they did close to 5000 surgeries (maybe more at this point) but they are not very user friendly. If she has time to wait, or if she has a good insurance that doesn't require the 6 months preop diet she may want to consider them. If she has to do the six months, I'd look for a doc who is williing to schedule surgery right after the six months are up.

My nurse in Syracuse told me that Dr. Christine Ren is supposed to be top in the LAP BAND for the NYC area...

Did she say top or THE top? Her husband Dr Feilding is actually the one (supposedly) who brought it to America, having performed thousands of surgeries before her. Together they supposedly make the top practice, though he obviously has that much more experience. At the info session they said he did 3300 Lap Band surgeries and she did 1300 (far less than many other surgeons) and they each had equal # of deaths. they also dont have much experience with the other surgeries (combined 400 of bypass and ds) and dont like doing it. Going to a top practice has many drawbacks though, such as being a number and not a person and they don't care about helping you and wont talk to you till you are approved by insurance (though I found them to be very nice once I actually got into the office).
