Insomnia
I also suffer from sleeplessness. I did the benadryl thing and the tylenol and advil PM. The problem with them (according to the nurse I work with ) is that the active ingredient in all of them is the same as the benadryl. The only difference is the advil and tylenol have the pain killer mixed in. If these three are taken for too long a period of time on a regular basis it will cause the eyes to dry out but worst is if you actually need the benadryl (or active ingrediant) for an allergy it doesn't really work as the body has built a tolerance to it. I have switched to unisom, which I talked over with my PCP on monday and she agreed that switching to unisom was a better idea and it is over the counter ($8.00 at Walmart) and not habit forming like some of the prescription meds. The active ingredient in Benadryl, tylenol PM and Advil Pm is: Diphenhydramine Citrate. You want to use something that has Doxylamine Succinate in it (unisom). Hope this helps. Oh yeah when I first used the unisom it did make me feel almost intoxicated for the first couple of nights but I have adjusted to it now. Good luck.

Before going for some major prescription sleep aides, I've tried Tylenol PM and found this to be effective. You need to have 6-8 hours to sleep and it takes about an hour to kick in. Plus do no****ch anything on tv like the news or anything too dramatic before you go to bed. I tend to think it makes your mind racey before falling asleep, just my opinion. I hope this helps. Try not to get hooked on prescription drugs.
