Maryellen, when you are ready to start running, I highly recommend finding a group of people to run with. In our area the Utica Boilermaker is a big event, so we have experienced runners who work with newbies each year. We get together every Saturday morning, with subgroups meeting during the week to run.

Until I joined this group, I had always failed in my attempts to become a runner, because I thought walking was a no-no. I didn't know I was supposed to alternate running and walking to build my endurance and avoid injuries.
