Thanks everyone for sharing in my excitement. Maryellen, when you are ready to start running, I highly recommend finding a group of people to run with. In our area the Utica Boilermaker is a big event, so we have experienced runners who work with newbies each year. We get together every Saturday morning, with subgroups meeting during the week to run. Runner's World has a great introduction for beginners that explains how to get started: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-380-381-387-2201-0,00.html Until I joined this group, I had always failed in my attempts to become a runner, because I thought walking was a no-no. I didn't know I was supposed to alternate running and walking to build my endurance and avoid injuries. Best of luck to you in reaching your goal to run a marathon!
