Diane, I used Dr. Vohra, Bar none he is the best and his staff is made up of the most caring people you ever want to meet. The thing I like is that Dr. Vohra is a very cautious person and takes no chances, so if you go, nothing will be done unless you follow his proceedures to the "T".I had asked him about negative results, he told me, the majority of complications(although very small) come from patients themselves, meaning not letting him know about certain conditions or illnesses in the past, stuff like that. What I am saying is,be truthful. Since I have had it done, now my oldest child who is having a weight problem took the plunge and is in the testing and approval stage. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself, only thing I wish is that I did it much earlier in life, Lou Lots of good luck

thanks for responding Lou I guess I am afraid of failing again I hear you have to go on a 2 week liquid diet before surgery I can't imagine being able to do that as I am always hungry I worry about things like traveling and bad slippage or swelling I guess I have been reading to many posts Thanks again Diane

I too am a patient of Dr. Vohra. I also was wanting the lap band until i went to the seminar and got all the info and decided for me best would be GNY. He is by far the best. I first met with him Feb 21. The end of March I got a surgery date and I have surgery on April 24. His staff does all the work for you with your ins company. They do all the leg work in getting you approved. They have 2 dietitions (sp) a program cordinator who is the most energentic person you'll ever meet. Every person on his staff are the sweetest ppl. I cant say enough good things about them. They have a support group that meets the first tuesday of every month (which are sooooo helpful) and they also have a info seminar that they offer that explains both lap band and GNY. Like I said, I cant say enough nice things about them... If you have any questions about them please feel free to ask. If anything just call his office and get the info on the next seminar they have. Then after the seminar get all your courage then. They have the best support system ever. Tricia

Thanks for replying Tricia I guess I am afraid of failing again I hear you have to go on a 2 week liquid diet before surgery I can't imagine being able to do that as I am always hungry I worry about things like traveling and bad slippage or swelling I guess I have been reading to many posts I am also concerned with things like swallowing pills, I hear you can't do that with a band. I am going to a seminar on the 19th and I have made an appt with the the doc already, but am no way clear on wether or not I will do this. I keep feeling like I should be able to do on my own aghh! What is GNY and what didn't you like about the band? Thanks again Diane

I'm not one for needles, and the band you need to get adjustments every so often. I guess thats what I got turned off on the band. GNY is the gastric bypass. Dr. Vohra's office also has a support group that meets once a month (first Tuesday of the month. ) I totally recommend in going. There are so many ppl there so dont worry, you'll just blend into the crowd. I went to the support group first and then the seminar. Anyhow, Vohra's office says you have to attend at least 2 support groups before surgery (both for yourself and your ins). It truely helps. They have ppl there that discuss their experiecenes and also have somewhat of a class so to speak, they have hand-outs with so much useful information in it. Its held at South Nassau Hosp. Just go there to the info desk and say your there for the baratric support group and they'll tell you where to go. It starts at 7pm I always arrive a bit early for parking. It will also help you in deciding what you want and help with the courage and strenght to do it. As for the pills, from what I heard, there are so many different kind of pills out there, most of them come in liquid form. I believe that I was told by one of dr. Vohra's patients that they take all their pills in liquid form. At the support group, you can also ask questions and Amy the cordinator will answer and many times she asks the group....does anyone else want to share what you did. That way you not only hear it from her, but you hear it from those who expericend it. I do agree, it is scary, and exciting all in one. Everyday I go through Scared, nervous, happy and excited. 1 and a half weeks to wait for surgery. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. Tricia
