I've been reading a lot about liquid diets for 2 weeks prior to surgery and Optifast? Is this the requirement for all Doctors and all surgeries? Forgive me, I'm in the learning phases.

It depends on your doctor. I did not have to do a liquid diet prior to surgery. I was told to lose 10 lbs (to shrink the liver as much as possible) and it didn't matter how I did it. I also did not have drains installed after my surgery either that many people talk about having to clean out when they get home. Every journey is different depending on the surgeon you choose.

My surgery is 4/19 and I do NOT have to do liquid diets beforehand at all. Doctor said the day before surgery have a regular breakfast and lunch, and lite dinner- like soup. All surgeons are different. Good Luck. Jackie

I have been on opti-fast since feb22 (2 shakes, snack bar and 1 meal)My surgery date is April 24. Like they said, not all surgeons use it, mine has every patient use it prior to surgery. What surgeon do you have? What hosp. ? I'm going to South Naussa.

It depends on the surgeon. Ours was a two day pre-op liquid diet. Marie

Opti fast worked very well for me. Like all diets, it's hard in the beginning but I got used to it because I knew the more weight I dropped pre-op, the safer the operation would be for me. I followed my doctor's rules for my benefit and safety and it made the whole process go easier. The more you lose the better off you will be. It's kind of a head start as well, good luck, Opti fast is a good product
