Hi-- Are we always going to think we're on a diet- counting, fat, protein, sugar, water, etc. My surgery is April 19 and I'm hoping I don't think about food as much as I do now......

Congrats on your upcoming surgery Jackie. You will always be thinking about what you eat, you can't go back to your old habits. You need to make sure you get enough protein & fluids in. Also vitamin intake is VERY important.

COngrats on your surgery date of April 19th. I have to say yes you will always have to be aware of what you are putting in your mouth. This is a major lifestyle change. Right now you are thinking of food for reasons such as companionship, comfort, cure for bordem etc... The difference i find post op is that i am thinking about eating but more what i am going to eat then having to eat. Support and therapy are important things to keep in mind post op as well. THis is a lifelong battle even long after you reach goal. Good luck to you and we are here for you. LisaMarie

Jackie- This is a great question !!! So many people think that once you have wls you never have to diet ever again. But this isn't true. I am 4+ years post op, and I've always had to watch everything I eat . I'm always on a "diet". I never eat and drink at the same time and try to never eat more than 1 1/2 cups of food in one sitting. But on the upside, I notice that I am not as preoccupied by thoughts of food and the desire to eat all the time. donna open rny mar 18 2003 282/145/140
