Ask to see the policy's noncoverage clause in writing. Why did they not tell you this before NOW???????

Hey Chelle - if they don't cover the band will they cover other types of wls? if so would you follow through? You need to find out exactly what you policy covers and what it expects of you. Don't depend soley on the dr office to get you this info. It is a benefit for you to know what your ins will do. Collette

Chelle - I'm not to sure do you want a lapband or rny? My story....I orginally wanted a Lapband, but my insurance wouldn't cover it because it was considered experimental and I had an exclusion in my policy. I ended up opting for a rny which my insurance covered. Hindsight, it was the best decision I have my life and health back. Donna open rny mar 18 2003 282/143/140

Hi Donna! I aure I want the LB...I have thought long and hard for three years now. Barb I did ask them if they covered anything and they said NO...not anything not even the meds like for weight loss. BUT they have a discount for me if I want to join JENNY CRAIG?????? uuuuummmm NO! lol I am going to appeal just for the heck of it...but I am sure we are just going out of pocket. Oh well...I think it is worth it for me and my health...and I am ready! I am not going to back down off of this. This is my time...time for me to be on the losing side!

Chelle - I wasn't to sure if you were doing a lapband as a second choice, since it is less expensive if you had to self pay. You should definitely partner with your doctor's office when you prepare your appeal. Most doctor's have insurance specialist in their office who can guide you on what you need to do and help you along the process. If your doctor says it is medically necessary then your insurance company has to pay. It awful in this day in time you have to fight an insurance company to get your health back. As I mention earlier I had an exclusion in my policy, and after talking to a rep. from my insurance company (Aetna PPO) and my doctor's office (longggg story) it was just made more sense for me to switch what Aetna covered. I want to wish you the best of luck. Don't give up, you and your health are worth it. If you ever have any questions please feel free to email me. Donna
