I just got home today and everything went well. My biggest problem is that I am overwhelmed with the post op diet directions. I understood it before, they went over it in the hospital, but now that I am reading it, it is going in one ear and out the other. I 'm a little upset. ***First, Is there a food chart available where I can check off the water, protein, vitamins and calcium...Weigh****cher"s style. I think that it would be so much more helpful. (Do you believe that I sat down to do it by hand and couldn't?) I went in as a fairly intelligent woman, I don't know what's wrong, that I am not thinking clearly. I am not taking any kind of pain killer either. I am sipping water all day. I am starting on my 2nd bottle of ONE PINT 9 OZ. just now. ***Also I have been sipping the Isopure to try to make it to 60 grms a day of protein. I am satisfied and not hungry yet. Is it so bad that I prefer this to jello and broth. Am I grazing because I am sipping all day. Is it bad because I haven't yet had designated mealtime? I am sipping very slowly. Please tell me in very simple terms what it is that I'm doing wrong. I just don't want to blow it. I guess that what I need is a friendly hand to s-p-e-l-l it out for me. BTW - I am not permitted soft food yet except applesauce to take meds. PS Other wise I feel just fine and in no pain. THIS, HOWEVER,IS PUSHING ME OVER THE EDGE! A rapid response would be appreciated.

I think that you are just going thru a emotional let down because of the surgery. The surgery affects all of us differently. It would be a normal thing to go thru this type of emotional let-down. As for the diet, yes you are surley an intelligent person, but your emotions and feeling that you need to succeed by doing the correct thing can be overwhelming. Take your time, read your information slowly, and digest it piece by piece. Are there any support groups in your area? Do you know anyone else that has had the same surgery, call them via land line. Sometimes hearing the words vs seeing the words can make a difference. You will do fine. Don't beat yourself up for feeling the way you do. It is normal. It becomes abnormal when you let it go on for several days. Think positive! Be happy that you are on the loser's list. Be happy about all the things that you will be able to do in the future that you can't do now ie: walk faster, go upstairs easier, feel more comfortable while sitting etc. You can do it, just think positive, happy thoughts. OK, so I probably you too much to digest, but I hope that it helps. Cathie

Hi Penny! Don't be upset. Take a deep breath....(I know it's overwhelming), but this is a transitional time. You just need to give yourself a few days to get into a routine. Then, before you know it, all this will be as natural as brushing your teeth in the morning! I'm so glad to here that all went well with your surgery. You were in my thoughts, but unfortunately I couldn't get to a computer before you went in; but you surely were NOT forgotten. Hope you are feeling better! Barbara

PS I almost forgot--(the anesthesia affected my brain --- LOL) I was told by my surgeon that the Isopure counts towards your fluid consumption for the day. I too am making it a staple. It is not grazing according to my surgeon---just consuming fluid.... Barbara

hes a real easy solution that i followed for my first 3 weeks...... keep doing what your doing .... what i did was request a handful of those caps that the doctor said would be the size of my stomach when he was thru...... forget trying to get all that protien in this soon out my doc told me as long as i stay hydrated .....for the first three weeks i lived on clear fluids and jello sf pudding sf yogurt and any other liquid that had no pieces... the soup at hands would last me all day ....i also heated up a huge mug of chicken broth and sipped that all day ....tilll your up to the next stage thats the best advice i can give ...... believe me the protien will come in time .....right now concentrate on getting your pouch healed and the protien and water intake will come........ hope this helps ...... Stacy P.S. i have succeeded and passed my goal!!!!!
