Hey everyone, I live in Binghamton, and will be having my surgery in Ithaca. Any advice? My surgery isn't scheduled yet, but I have almost all of my pre-op stuff done. I'm getting a little nervous, this is something I not only need, to live the rest of my life, but its something I want so much. I am getting this done for me, and so I can eventualy have children. I have PCOS... anyone else in that situation?

I am not in your situation with the PCOS, however, all of this can be so overwhelming at times. Just take it day by day, do what your doc. tells you to do, try not to get over anxious if there is a delay or hiccup in your approval process. Just remember that everything happens for a reason and soon you will be joining 'us' on the losers bench. I can't believe myself that I just typed that--I am on the other side good golly!!! take care and if you need anyone to vent to in this process, feel free to drop me a line anytime. This website is awesome for support and I totally would not have been able to do this without the wonderful people on there. It's my turn to 'pay it forward'!!

Reserach research research...and oh yeah research. Don't take the first surgery offered to you, choose your surgery, then find a surgeon that can perform it. I was offered the RNY, and after doing research found out that I wanted the DS, the surgeon I went to didnt' perform it, and tried to talk me out of it. I found a surgeon that performed the DS, and 13 months after my DS, I'm down over 250 lbs. It was the best surgery for me. There was a post about PCOS on www.duodenalswitch.com several months ago regarding people who have it. Apparently it is a precurser to diabetes (or at least the research is leading that way). I honestly didnt' pay all that much attention to it because I'm a guy and won't face that issue, but you might want to go onto www.duodenalswitch.com to find the thread. I believe it was in the preop forum. Scott

Colleen - Hello from endicott!! I am assuming you are going to Dr. Macenas, since you said Ithaca. I too was nervous but now am calming down. I haven't had surgery yet but am scheduled for my pre op physical soon. Are you comfortable with your surgeon? Alot of your nervousness may be being comfortable. Have you had the talk with yourself about all the reasons this is a good decision? I had to do that and then I calmed down(after seeing my surgeon for the first time). I also did an extensive amount of research on the surgeons in our area and thier patients outcomes. Also get into a group meeting it will make you feel so much better too. At least it did me, to know that other people had the same feelings and I was normal. Good luck . Collette
