So the clinical director puts me on these shakes for a week beginning last Wed until Monday (almost a week)..... She said I can't have any meals and to have these shakes 5x's a day every 3 hours. I'm STARVEDDDDD... they said it's to shrink my liver and since my surgery is Tuesday they only had a week to do this. She said I can have Crystal Light or water in between and 16oz. of coffee. But I've been eating sugar free jello as well. OMG... when my hubby did this he was on the shakes for 2 weeks but he had 1 meal a day. This is driving me crazy and everytime I tell my hubby that I'm hungry he says "go have a shake".... Those shakes make me nauseas. I'm sooooooooooooo pissed. So, yesterday I had about 8 pieces of past and about 8 slices of bread. Today I had nothing all day and I finally caved in and had about 10 slices of toast. This is driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!! And my hubby just gives me this look and I yell at him telling him he has no idea what it's like not to have food!!!!!!!!!!! He had one meal a day when he was on these shakes. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can control myself for the next 2 days? And has anyone had to do this as well?

It's so strange, Cindy, what each surgeon expects. I am lucky., I guess. I don't have to go on a liquid fast. The day before my surgery(Tomorrow) I have to have a clear liquid diet. I was feeling bad about it but I guess that's better than what you have to go through. If you're going to cheat, I would think that it should be on healthier food choices.(Cottage Cheese...Yogurt?) I AM NOT TELLING YOU TO CHEAT...but bread is empty calories. Why not call the office on Monday and explain your predicament and see what they say. I wish you all the best. Sincerely, Diane P.S. I didn't realize that you are going in on the 19th too. Good Luck.

Thanks.... I'm actually going on the 20th.... I wish I would have a clear liquid diet one day before rather than this... It seems that they have to shrink the liver to do laporscopic surgery. That's why I'm on this liquid diet. It's horrible. I really wish I can have at least one meal a day. But you're right, I should have, if anything, yogurt or something healthier. The other night I had some strawberries and my husband gave me the "look"..... Yesterday I had some blueberries too! I figured that's healthy with no calories. Man o man! At least I'm not really binging and eating the sherbet that's in the freezer! I've been really good that way. ARe you having laporscopic surgery or regular? Where are you having it done? Good luck to you and let me know how it goes!

Cindy, I am having the Lap RNY. Easy for me to say, but the end is almost near. Just don't even think about having anything but clear liquids the day before. Probably the best thing to do, if you don't have young kids or have to work on Monday, is S-L-E-E-P through the misery. I'll be thinking of you. Diane

the day before? I can do that! It's easier when I'm at work cause I'm busy and I'm not thinking of food. It's good I have to go to work on Monday so that way I'm not home with the refrigerator! LOLLLLL Thanks again!

Hi Cindy I live in Yonkers too Where do you live Where are you having surgery Shakes 5 times a day before surgery is unheard of We only had 2 days of that If you were to eat a meal as long as its 48 hours before, believe me, it's not gonna make a difference. Thats so stupid. A weeks worth of shakes Email me, we'll chat Marie

Hi Cindy. Each surgeon has their own plan for pre op plans. I would give him a call. I only had to do it for 3 days before my surgery and thought I was going to die, i actually cheated as well one time and had some pasta shells with ricotta cheese. You have 2 days left is that right? Hang in there. Try your best ...it really is in your best interest to get that liver as small as possible as to make the surgery as easy as possible for the surgeon and to aid in your recovery. One thing to remember is you are human and you cant be perfect....dont beat yourself up or your husband lol.....do your best and it should all work out fine. Keep us posted.... LisaMarie

Hello I had lap RNY on Jan 18th 2007, my surgeon required a 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery, it was very difficult for me but I did it...All I can say is don't blame the surgeon if you wake up from surgery and discover that he had to do it open....there is a reason (shrinking the liver) for these requirements.....best of luck to a successful surgery......

There is a reason that the surgeon wants you to do what you're doing. Do you think (10) slices of toast is a little excessive? Please follow what the surgeon says, there is a reason for his requests he's not doing this for ****s and giggles! Good Luck to you, ANDI
