Can anyone tell me please, IF your insurance company pays 80% of your costs, for example, do the surgeons require you to pay the remaining 20% in full BEFORE having surgery?? Thanks.

My insurance is typicall a 80/20 split but for major medical procedures performed at a hospital it pays 100%. I had to pay 20% of all pre-op stuff but the Surgery itself was covered 100% yeah!!!

Mine is 90/10 after deductible which my surgeon requires before the surgery.

Thank you... I hope it will be the same with me... did you need to pay your pre-op stuff prior to surgery?

It depends on your insurance and your doctor, I have Aetna with a 80/20 split. I didn't get my bill till after surgery. I just paid it off monthly. Donna open rny mar 18 2003 282/144/140

My surgeon did not make me pre-pay, I am still paying him out a year and half later. Also, you only pay 20% of the negoiated rate. So it's not as bad as you would think. In total, I had to pay about $3,000 for everything involved w/ my surgery, but the total costs for all hospital and doctors bills where close to $70,000!!!! Good Luck, Ilyssa
