I just wanted to introduce myself and say "hi." My name is Shayne and I live in the Syracuse area. I am new to posting but I have been reading the posts for a couple of years now. I have my first appt with wls dr soon. I am very nervous and I really thought that lap band was for me but I have been doing my homework and I have changed my mind. The more and more I research wls I am now thinking that RNY is right for me. I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions. Shayne:dance:

Shayne, Welcome hun ~hugs~ Congrats on having your appt.... It is very exciting and you can get nervous which is all normal since this is a big change in your life! For me the RNY was the way I needed to go for the some what control over the sugar stuff, though after a while you can have more and that is when you really need to control that! SO hard to do but worth it! With the band you have nothing to stop you at the begining. The one thing I do like about the band is you can always go for an adjustment to keep it "fresh" and keeping it restricted. All in all I would pick the RNY for myself all over again. I hope that helps some Take care Debra P

Hi Debra. Thank you so much. Everyone here is so wonderful and supportive. I agree totally with you. I don't think the lapband is for me. I have a big problem with sugar and sweets. I llllove them!!! I hope the RNY will help me control that!! How long did you wait to get your surgery date? For the past year and a half I have been monitored by my pcp with dieting and she had me on weight loss meds and I lost a total of 35 lbs but I gained about 15-20 back. Do you think that will qualify for the 6 month monitoring for insurance? My pcp seemed confident that it would. I am still waiting for that 1st appt date with surgeon. I hope to talk to ya soon Shayne

Welcome Shayne. My date is for March 19th. I can tell you this though. Either go online for your insurance policy re: WLS.( I did), or call them up and ask what their Regulations and rules are required.( the phone is a pain in the #$%#.) Mine absolutely stated that I needed SIX consecutive months with supervised diet an exercise. I had to go for two more months extra because they wanted them in a row??? I had so many tests scheduled that I skipped the PCP appt. The Surgeon's office usually handles the insurance part of it. Another thing to be considered is if you have any co morbidites such as high BP, Severe sleep apnea or diabetes etc. Once all of your pre-op appointments and tests are done, you should be just fine. Good Luck on your journey. Take Care, Diane

Shayne, It should be ok as long as it says your weight each time you came in so they can see it was tracked, well that is what GHI said when I went and had to do the 6 month Dr sup Diet. GHI once they got all the paperwork from my surgeon only took 3 days to approve me for surgery. I wish you all the best hun, keep us posted! Debra P

Hi Shayne. Congrats on getting your appointment. I've been through the process at Upstate and everyone there is real helpful. I have been researching WLS for probably 2 years now. I'm happy to say that my surgery for Laproscopic RNY is scheduled for April 2nd. Just a few more weeks til that big day. It's good to know that you've done you're homeworkw ith studying about the different surgeries. I've heard good things about Dr. Simon but my surgeon is Dr. Kim. Anyways, I hope the best for you in your journey. Take care.

Hiya Shayne, Congrats on making the decision to have WLS. See all the Syracusians coming out of the woodworks lol. I had my surgery 10/4/06 with Dr. Kim at the Bariatric Center in Syracuse as well. I can't say enough about them. I am certainly pleased with them. Let us know if you need anything. Molly
