Okay so I finished the last step required on my part to submit everything to my insurance company, the letter from my PCP. In the letter she put I've been obese for over 10 years that my THS levels are normal and I suffer from asthma and arthitis [i'm only 23] as well as a skin condition due to skin folds and she also put she believed I would benefit greatly from the surgery. SOOOO ...what do you think? My BMI is almost 43, I have medicaid and indepentdent health as my secondary insurance...am I getting my hopes up for nothing? Help I'm so worried, nervous, excitied but I don't want a HUGE let down.

i dont know much about the insurance issues for this surgery but what i do know and know only cause i experienced it is this surgery is just a tool and a huuuuuge lifestyle change and commitment.... from my personal experiance the first 4 months is the period where the weight drops off but then after that it is work..... my advice to anyone that is thinking of surgery or going for it is to get a support network before hand and follow your drs rules to the letter and you cant fail.... just remember its not a guaruntee however it is a great tool if we dont abuse it .... good luck to you and if you need anything you can use and abuse us on this board..... i have met some wonderful people on this board and have gotten tons and tons of support....everyone has had a huge success from what i see...... again good luck to you Stacy

Don't worry! I have IH and from what I've heard, they are one of the easiest insurance companies to get approval from. If you have a BMI over 40, which you do, and some comorbidities, which you do, and a history of obese related illnesses in your family, then more than likely you will be approved. It took about a week for IH to approve me once they had all my paperwork. Do you know when your Dr is submitting the paperwork? Good luck! Michelle
