Hello everyone! I need your help. I need to find a Physhiatrist on Long Island that has experience with obesity/obesity surgery who accepts Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois insurance. I have already tried going through my insurance company and they have no idea who specialies in what area. I have called all the doctors that are listed in my area that are under the plan and no one has called me back. I have tried going through my surgeon's office but all the people that he has contacts with do not carry my type of insurance...or any type of insurance for that matter. I did find a doctor that I liked very much in the area but he does not accept any insurance and is very expensive and I just can't keep up with it. The last time I checked my last name wasn't Rockeffeller! I have already gotten my Physc Eval done for my surgery and am all cleared in that respect. I have my surgery coming up in two months and feel the need to see someone on a regular basis to help me deal with issues as they arrive while going through my weight loss journey. I have 200+ pounds to loose and expect the road to be a little bumpy. If anyone can help me out I will be forever greatful!!!

I don't have an answer for you, but I would think that if you have the psych evaluation done for insurance purposes, then after that any reputable psychiatrist would be able to help you after that. The aftermath of the surgery will certainly bring up very emotional issues, some that you realize already and some that you have never even thought of. Listening to many on this board there seems to be a lot of "body dysmorphic" qualities.(That is perceiving that your body looks a certain way and in truth it doesn't). I have a Doctor now who helps me with that issue...but that's another story! Many people here seem to still keep their"Fat" sunglasses on and don't realize the significant progress that they made with their weight loss. Many go to the store and pick up their larger sizes by mistake or don't understand the compliments that are given to them. If you go to WLS group, perhaps someone there can point you in the right direction. Good Luck! (P.S.) I ALWAYS HAVE TO LAUGH AT MYSELF WHEN POSTING! I SOUND LIKE THE PICTURE OF EMOTIONAL HEALTH. WHEN MY TIME COMES... I"LL PROBABLY HAVE A COMPLETE MELT DOWN AND YOU HAD BETTER BELIEVE IT. LOL

Hey Nancy, I think that you don't really need someone who is experienced in obesity for them to evaluate you. Just someone to write you a letter based on your session. as for your search for a doctor have you tried the insurance web site some sites have a search engine to find a doctor. or try calling them again. I have blue cross blue shield for new york and I had no problem finding all the doctors I needed for my evaluations.
