Surgery in 3 days Yeah!!!!! But I am having a bit of a problam.......advise please!!!!!!

My surgery is in 3 days and I am suggery with a nasty cold runny nose and coughing.........do you think any of that will complicate surgery?........I hope that doesnt sound silly.............

The same thing happened to me - right before my surgery. I called my surgeon and he wanted me to go to my PCP ... together they decided that it would be better for me to reschedule my surgery ... I was so upset - but then just focused on my NEW surgery date. I was happy when that day came I was feeling fine. Some peoples surgeons will operate as long as you don't have a fever. your best bet is to call your surgeon. good luck and feel better, Britt

Just remember you want to be in tip top shape going into surgery so that the surgery itself will be uncomplicated and the recovery smoother. Talk with your surgeon and pcp and together decide if this is the right time or if it needs to be put off for a short time until you are all better. As frustrating as it may sound, just imagine having to cough and sneeze post op following abdominal surgery OUCH! Also you dont want to complicate any breathing issues while under anesthia. Better to be safe then sorry....Hang in there maybe it will clear up ...Keep us posted. LisaMarie

Hi, The last thing you want is to go under the knife and general anesthesia with an underlying infection(even if its just a silly cold). You want to be as healthy as possible right before this(or any for that matter) surgery. GOOD LUCK and I am sure it will pass.
