It's perfectly normal to be scared, but rest assured that Dr. Graber is an excellent surgeon! I had my surgery in September 2006 and have lost 75 pounds so far only 30 more to go to reach my personal goal. Looking back, I truly think the worst part was the anxiety leading up to the surgery. Other than a little hair loss and low iron levels, I've had no complications along the way. The best thing is my hunger hasn't returned yet and I slipped into a pair of size 10 jeans today! I'm a numbers person, so before surgery I just kept reminding myself that the odds were in my favor, especially in comparison to the health risks of being obese. Best of luck to you! Cassie

Congatulations! You will do great. I had my RNY about 6 weeks ago and am so glad that I did. You will be on the loser side before you know it : ) You are in my thoughts and prayers. : ) Kier

Congrats on your surgery. I'm sure it is normal to feel nervous. Mines is less than a month away. Things are still surreal. Who is your surgeon and are you having this done at Upstate? Most likely, but I thought I'd ask.

Hi Sue, Initially, I was lapband all the way. After all my research, I too switched to RNY. For me, it was the best decision I ever made. I feel absolutely marvelous! Since 7/31/06, I've lost -90lbs! I have 10 more to my personal goal. And guess what....my thighs don't rub anymore! (so excited!) I am wearing size 10 (still hard to believe!) I know what it is to be "scared ****less", because I was in the same boat. As long as you did your homework on your doctor and hospital, you'll be fine! Remember, (you wil lhear this often) WLS is only a tool, its up to you to follow up with what the doctors tell you afterward to be successful and lose the wait . I've met several people who have had the same surgery and are not as successful. After speaking with them, they are NOT following their doctors orders on what to eat, how to eat it...(chew, chew, chew), vitamins, exercising and how water will be your best friend (sip, sip, sip). It gets a little easier as time passes. WLS is not the easy way out, it is not easy at all! HOwever, it is the best decision I've ever made! Good luck to you. Maryellen
