Mini Gastric Bypass?

Anyone heard of the Mini Gastric Bypass? Any Surgeons doing it in New york State? What type of pain meds are you taking after LAP RNY? What if you get a cold and have to take cough meds? What can you and can you not take with the LAP RNY? I have been doing more research. I have my Seminar this week. All was going well( in my head) when I found out you get nothing for pain. What about a plain old headache?

Lori: I have heard about the MGB, all I can say is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE research your choices! There is +/- to any surgery but I have heard many not so + things on the MGB. I have not heard of any surgeons in NY doing this but there may be. Not sure where you got info that you get no pain meds but thats false. I was on IV meds for pain then lortabs after postop. Narcotics can be taken as can tramadol, tylenol for headaches. You may be talking about NSAIDS (motrin, aspirin etc) they are discouraged after WLS due to risk of bleeding in stomach and ulcers. Cough meds should be fine look at the sugar content is all you may dumpo from them. Knowledge is power and research your choice well even if it takes years to make the most educated and informed decision that is best for you! If you desire websites let me know I have tons of references! My RNY didnt involve much pain I was off pain pills in few days really used at night mostly. Pain is individual, but I am here to say at 4 1/2 yrs out u can live w/o motrin!
