NO PATIENCE, WANT THIS PROCESS TO GO FAST... Well, I went to my Dr's office today to pick up the letter of medical necessity he wrote for me to bring to my "Manadatory Seminar" at Ellis hospital this week... this is just the very beginning of along process from what I gather from every one on this board..This Is what he wrote and I hope it is good enough..: This letter is in reference to my patient """"""""" and her medical need for gastric bypass procedure. She has been a patient in my practice since 9/7/2001. I have watched this patient struggle with diet and exercise for several years without success. This patient has a very strong history of diabetes on both her mother and fathers side and is now borderline hypertension, hyperlipidema, and diabetes. I believe there is a need for this procedure as it will greatly improve her quality of life. Her current weight is 255 and her height is 63 inches tall. This gives this patient a BMI of 45.2 .Please contact this office if you have any questions regarding this patient. I just want to get this process started & patience is not one of my strong points!! well, what do you all think?? Do I ahve a shot getting insurance approval and this surgery??? AND HOW THE HECK DID YOU ALL GET THROUGH THE PROCESS AND ALL THE APPOINTS WITH OUT GOING NUTS!! I'M A NERVOUS WRECK AND I JUST STARTED!! me!

The way you get through it this board and be patient, but aggressive. Schedule all of your appointments as quickly as you can. Get all your tests done and make sure that all the doctors and laboratories do what they are supposed to, when they are supposed to and try to get them to send you copies of your results. Most of the tests are fairly easy. They put to sleep for the endoscopy, the worst of the upper GI is drinking the barium, but not terrible. Blood work is a cinch. Try to schedule your psych evaluation quickly, because the results of that could take the longest. Once you finish your part, the surgeon should submit to your insurance for approval. Good luck and stick with us here on the board. We'll get you through it. No question is stupid and it's ok to be nuts!!! Joanne
