my personal feeling on protien shakes is they are great early on but as i got further along i felt they didnt fill me and i was looking for somthing after that ,,, however i drank the slim fast low carb ones from walmart they were cheap and no sugar.... now im almost 3 yrs out and try to get my protien from foods but again thats just me i hope this helps Stacy

I agree with Stacy. Most surgeons prefer you did not get your protein from shakes but rather from real food. Early out i ate the stallone puddings, i didnt do shakes i dont like how they taste. As i got farther out i started adding protein to my coffee in the am. I still do this today. I only use the Jay Robb brand its the only one that sits nice in my tummy and tastes good to me. Good luck LisaMarie

Hi Meredith I am 19 months post-op and I still have a protein shake everyday for breakfast. I use pre-made in the cans. WORLDWIDE PROTEIN I also used CHAMPION PROTEIN power. You can buy this in sample packets at www.vitalady.com before you spend money on big jugs you don't like. But the chocolate and banana tastes great. If you need anymor ehelp, just ask us. Marie

Meredith: You will hear many many many differeing philosophies about protein shakes postop. First what everyone likes is so individual and can CHANGE from preop to postop! Samples are the way to go so you do not waste precious money on intolerable powders! I am 4+ yr postop and strongly believe in the importance of shakes postop LONGTERM they are a great source of protein and if used properly can really decrease carb cravings, used in am before the gym or at night to alleviate the urge to graze! But what works for you is most important. For myself I attest they helped me lost all my wt and maintain over time in 10-15# +/- of lowest. My hair and nails are great as well and they fit the south beach philosophy I follow for eating mostly. I also LOVE my shakes so for me they work... I like PVL whey gourmet flavors the best & use them exclusively now, White chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, caramel dip, milk chocolate, PB chocolate, blueberry, orange cremescicle....Beth is reliable, speedy and courteous and welll lets give the business to a WLSer right!
