Stomach and chest pain
Hi - I'm 7 months post op and all of the sudden in the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing stomach and left chest area pain when eating dinner. I can't get more than 4 or 5 bites of food down before the pain starts. It stops shortly after I stop eating, but its beginning to scare me. I only have this after dinner and it doesn't matter what I'm eating. The rest of the day is fine. Any thoughts on what could be happening? Thanks for the help.
Linda -
Best thing to do is to call your surgeon's office FIRST THING tomorrow and tell them exactly what's happening.
I know that I get some pain under/around my left collarbone if/when I eat a little too much and/or too fast, so it might be an issue along those lines, and/or maybe the stoma is a little small, if you had an RNY, but a lot of that will depend on who your surgeon is/what kind of procedure they did, how they did it, etc.
The difference also being that I'm a lot further out than 7 months, so call and get it checked out
or at leat see what their opinion is..
Good luck -
Nick

Linda:
I'd call my surgeon. If yu feel this is not behavioral in nature (you are more stressed in eve or tired so you eat faster or don't chew well) and things get stuck, then I'd consider a call for a work-up, Possibly could be acid reflux, sign of an ulcer, a stricture developing or even a partial bowel pobstruction. Could be a million things or nothing but that is why we recommend you call the surgeon for a workup! Keep us posted ok!!!

Hi Linda -
Yes, yes, please call your surgeon. I've had several "episodes" of what sounds similar to what you're describing. I'm different in that it can happen at any time, even waking me out of a sound sleep. When I have it, I get an intense chest pressure, pain behind my left shoulder blade and a severe stabbing pain just below my sternum. I'm 16 months out. My understanding is it could anything from gas to an internal hernia, with a few other possibilities in there as well. I just had a CT scan done that shows nothing wrong (which does not necessarily mean that it's not an internal hernia), and have an endoscopy scheduled for this Thursday. I'm really hoping for a non-surgical answer.
I encourage you to get checked as well - and wish you the best.
Hang in!
