Kelly: Your doctor means the trauma and stress your BODY physically has undergone w/ surgery (anesthesia, insicions, manipulation of internal organs, stapling, cutting, rerouting of intestines etc), not really 'emotional' stress but that too could cause a rxn such as this. What comes to mind is things like allergies: Any new meds? (Antibiotics perhaps, pain meds, vitamins, other meds) that you had not taken pre surgery???? New sheets, clothes, detergents, soaps, creams, lotions? New foods such as protein shakes? Are u using additives or a lot of artificial sweetners you hadn't used prior (Splenda, nutrasweet etc?) Are you allergic to latex? Tapes? maybe something they used in/on you in the hospital? Is this associated w/ pain, itching, swelling anywhere? In a small location on trunk or all over body? Trouble breathing? Rashes are a sign of something (Millions of things though) and the above are just ideas.....I'd work w/my surgeonor PCP on this esp. if it worsened or became bothersome, maybe a dermatologist needs to be involved. Keep us posted ok! http://www.cureresearch.com/sym/rash.htm site re rash causes/possibilities... Anything help it? Baths of colloidal oatmeal (uch as Aveno), calamine lotion or another anti itch, benadryl?
