INSURANCE HELP!!! PLEASE!!!
The end of November I was turned down by my insurance. They felt I did not have enough info on my 6 month diet and said I HAVE TO do the 6 months over again. My family Dr has refused to help me with it...not one dietician in the area will except my insurance...I just dont know what to do.
I live in an area with VERY limited health care and having a PPO plan Im also limited as to who I can see.
I was told that some people have had to go out and find a different insurance provider just to get them through surgery. And my understanding is that it has to do largely with the 6mo diet. Does anyone know what insurance company would pick you up for such a thing? Any idea on cost? I am having such issues with finding a Dr that will help me do this diet that I am now really thinking about finding a different insurance provider. ANY help on this would be great!

Where do you live that you have limited healthcare? Did your Dr. say why he refused to help you? If you do indeed need the surgery, I think you need to find a Dr. that will support you in this journey. Does your insurance have a website where you can look up provider information? If not, get a listing from you HR department. There has to be a list somewhere that gives you a list of the Healthcare Professionals that accept that insurance. Then you can do several things:
You can ask on the board for a Dr.'s name that supports WLS. I went to the NJ Forum and asked. This is what I did and I struck gold. I really like this new Dr. and will continue to see him for my primary care.
Or, you can start calling the offices of those Drs that accept your insurance and ask some questions.
Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

Partner with your weight loss surgeon and see what he has to say. My doctor has a dietician on staff who does the 6 months pre op dieting for his patients. I had a similiar problem, a friend who has wls surgery recommended I change to her doctor, who turned out was extremely support of my decision to have wls from day one, where as, my primary care physician who I had been seeing for 5 years didn't want to be bother with or help me in any way get wls. I would asks around to see if anyone know a wls friendly doctor in your area who can help you.

Hi!
Why don't you ask your WLS surgeon/coordinator for a name of a PCP that he/she recommends. That is how I found my PCP...my surgeon gave me his name. I love my pcp almost as much as my surgeon!
They are both very supportive/helpful.
GOOD LUCK!

Well....my surgeon is located 6 hours south of where I live...so I dont think he would really know of any closer to me. However...I was able to find one not too far from me...I go to see her on the 11th. I HOPE she will help. I did ask for someone that would support WLS....I guess I wont know till I see her.
