Hey guys how r ya... here i am again to post another lovely question..... I noticed that one of the things i need to prove i need the lapband is get a Pcp letter saying my efforts towards dieting and excersize that hasnt worked(for past 6 months within 2 yrs). I rarley get sick rarely visit the doc.. and i just got atena insurance.... i had medicaid before and that was cancel a yr and a half ago... i did go to the hospital twice within that time frame but thats it(i dunno if that counts)... i was assigned to this new doctor here in the bronx named elizabeth reynolds by atena.... anyways my point is she is my new doctor we dont have 6 months together and i wanna get started already (getting tested) so should i bring it up to her when i visit this week or what can i do, who could i contact?? has anyone been in this weird situation?

LSL: Most likely you will need documentation of a medically supervised diet w/ MONTHLY weigh ins documented by your PCP, to know for sure ask insurance company for your POLICY info and guidelines for what is needed/documentation wise. Word to the wise do not miss one month as many insurances make you start the 6 mo process again! And sometimes in Jan policies change some found their 6 mo went to 12 or 24 month preop medically supervised diet, some find wls not covered (I have heard one local insurer dropped it recently) so get your policy, be clear and work w/ PCP this week to start the journey! Get the figures because a surgery etc can be costly for some $25-50K 20% of that is high!! Also if complications longer stay etc. Just be prepared as u can! Jamie

If you are able to switch coverage to Oxford NY Freedom they pay for both Lap Band and Route en Y without prior documentation that you tried to diet. I was approved in a few days. The total cost of Lap Route en Y was about $40,000 grand billed not including Anestisia. But then it says it was paid at a contracted rate so it could have been less. Good luck and hope you are able to go through w/ the WLS. It was well worth it for me. Route en Y 11-14-2006 Pre OP 214 Current 181
