I am currently drinking the Isopure Low carb dutch chocolate mix. My mom wants to get me protein for christmas (has anyone watched TLC lately? I feel like that commercial where the kids get bolonga and protein powder -- except I really DO want the powder haha) Should I tell her to get the Zero carb Isopure to be on the safe side? I think they have one in chocolate. I think the Low carb Isopure has 3 g carbs, but I have no clue how well i'm going to tolerate carbs... plus, I think it's silly to be trying to get your protein in & intaking unwanted carbs... but that's just me Thanks for your Help guys! -Beth

i'm guessing your preop????? Anyway personally I wouldn't spend a ton of money preop on protein shakes....I spent tons of money on shakes preop..and post op coudln't stand the taste of any of them!!! The only shake that IMHO is worth getting preop to prepare for post op..are the IDS or profect vials. 25 to 42 grams of protein per 3 oz vial. You can't beat it ...and the first few weeks post op you'll be struggling just to drink 3 oz. If your post op....go for the shake with the least amont of carbs. Why waste carbs on protein shakes??? Hi Beth Did you get a date yet? Are you coming to Support Group this Thursday? As far as the protein shakes and mixes. Don't spend a whole lot of money on stuff pre-op because some people's tastes changes after surgery. What you could do is go to www.vitalady.com and get some sample packets of protein powders. Another one you can try which is pre-made in the can (very convenient) is called Worldwide Protein. You can get them on line or at Trader joe's Hope to see ya Thursday Marie

Hi Beth, To me, Isopure is so-so but too pricey. I like chocolate designer protein powder the best and liked it just as much so I did pre-op when I was doing the atkins diet. You can buy it in any GNC, vitamin world etc etc place. I use a tub of it every couple of weeks. http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133796&cp&origkw=designer+chocolate&kw=des igner+chocolate&parentPage=search Yes your taste buds do chance post-op but no sense in just trying some ones out before hand I guess! Don't worry about the carbs in the low carb protein powder, 3 carbs is nothing. Good luck! Wishing you nothing but the best.

Thank you for your help everyone! Good to knowthat taste buds do change...I'm not going to be able to make it to the support group meeting this Thursday; by the time I'm done observing my HS classroom & factor in long island traffic @ 4pm, I would probably get there around 10pm haha No date set yet... I'll know early in January after my last nutrition appt. My window is between Jan. 9 and the 24th. I'm thinking that I'll realitically have the surgery around the 18th. We'll see! Let's just hope that my insurance doesn't change it's requirements after the 1st of the New Year!! -Beth
