I have never been to NYC but I have wanted to visit for a long time. This Friday, Dec 15th my 21 year old son and I are flying in. We'll be there until Wednesday, Dec 20th. We have tickets to see RENT on Saturday at 2:00. Other than that, we are just going to go and do whatever we feel like. I was wondering if any of you in the area could tell me some things to do or not to do while in NYC. Any safety tips would be great too. We've both been to major cities, but none as big as NYC. I would love to meet some of you so if there is a place we could meet - maybe for lunch on Sunday - then let me know. It would be great if I could meet several of my OH family!!! Thanks in advance for any information or advice. Please forgive me if I don't respond to each of you individually. I am heading to bed soon because my stomach has been hurting all day. I think I have a virus... hope it's gone soon! I will read all the responses though. Margie

Hi Margie, Don't forget to eat at Carmine's restuarant (theatre district), anywhere in Little Italy and in chinatown. Rent was great. If you want to see more shows, some theatre's (i know of Wicked & Rent) does a raffle, you show up 2 hours before showtime, stand in line directly at the theatre and you put your name on an index card. If your name is called, you will up to two front row seats. May daughter has won twice! Also, you get a huge pin that says,I won the Wicked Lotto today! I hope your first trip allows you to see some of our great museums, The Met, etc...Definitely go see the South Street Seaport. Stop in FAO Schwartz, and walk down 5th avenue to see the window displays and tree. have fun! Maryellen

It really depends on what you like to do...(there are several posts on this topic on this forum over the last few months...so you might want to go back and try to view them). In general....I'd go see all the major sites.....(if you like that hokey touristy stuff...which i do): Statue of liberty (can only go into the base, but it's worth the trip) Empire state building (go to the observation deck) A walk down 5th avenue starting at 34th street (macy's) is a fun thing to do.....you can see rockfellar center **** skate there or for in central park...central park is cheaper) St patricks cathedreal (sp?) FAO swartz a carriage ride in central park is nice so is the zoo...it's winter so most of the outside animals are put away...but its' a nice way to end your 5th avenue walk. Museum of nautral history or the MOMA (modern art) are very good (i like the natrual history one...if they still have it ...pay the extra money for the butterfly exhibit). Also if you can get tickets, radio city music hall's rockets production is awesome. Scott
