:-o Stricture news!
Hi Jenn,
Are you having nausea and/or vomiting? I had a stricture and experienced this after my surgery. I had two dilations and still had continued nause until about my 5th month.
I have just hit my 7th month out and I feel fantastic.
I hope your stricture is fixed with the dilation and you continue on your journey with no more bumps.

HI! From my understanding strictures are more common than we think, up to 10% patients develop these postop, that is 1 in 10 people, higher than I thought, actually 2 people in my local support group had this recently. Nothing that you oo surgeon did, just YOUR body aggressively 'over healing' is all. Realistic expectations for the number of 'scopes/stretches' is usually always more than once UNLESS... patient c/o and presented early enough over 50% need more than one and of the remaining 25% will need 2-3 and the other 25% will need more than 3 (I know one lady it took 6 stretches for 'perfection'). If 8-12 dilations do not work then surgical revision of anastamosis is sometimes considered. This is due to the fact the body tends to rescar down again and they do not want to 'stretch' the stoma too much causing an enlargement that cannot be orif it can easily fixed which would give you no fullness and no tool basically.
From: ''Obesity Surgery'' Louis F. Martin ISBN 0-07-140640-9 ©2004 pp: 309.
Optimal Stomal size should be between 12-15mm (.5-.6 INCHES). ANYTHING SMALLER THAN 10MM (.4 inches) usually causes problems, a stomal opening of 6mm restricts one to fluids usually and less than 4mm restricts even fluids from passing.
So will keep you in my thoughts and prayers
that yu are in the group that 2 works!
Luckily it is usually a nuisance procedure more than a painful or risky one.... HUGS!

Jamie
